I know I haven't posted as much here in recent months but this is my final post..... This used to be a decent forum with a variety of interesting discussions but over the last 12 months it has become nothing but a "whinge about Chris Evans zone". I appreciate people may not like him but there are a number of members who, no matter what the subject, manage to turn everything into an anti-Chris discussion. It's so bloody boring and I can't be bothered coming on here any more. |

Sorry to see you go, I enjoy reading your posts.
I completely understand your reasons though and have been having similar thoughts myself. |

Sorry to see you go, Shaky, but I don’t agree with your analysis that every thread is a whinge about Chris Evans-
Look at the Top Ten Threads in the “Shows and Music” Section- Chris Evans comes in at number 10 (although he is mentioned in the number 1 thread about Sarah Kennedy but only because he was touted to take her slot).
The Top Ten in “What’s Happening”- Chris Evans, nowhere to be seen.
The “Gripes” Section- Top Ten there are 4 threads about Chris Evans but then if you don’t like what he’s doing, that’s where to talk about it!
The Coffee Bar is just chit chat, items of interest and other nonsense – shouldn’t be taken seriously.
Then there’s a range of other forum sections TV, Music, Cinema, Theatre, Sport, News etc where it’s rare that Chris Evans is mentioned if at all apart from the One Show thread in the TV section.
You know it's not against the rules to start a thread on something "you" would like to talk about. A forum isn’t a place to enjoy free entertainment-it’s not a library with lots of your favourite books- it’s a place to get it off your chest, if you have something to say – say it, if you don’t, don’t. |

I think it's funny when people announce they are leaving a messageboard - flouncing off into the ether!
Why announce it - just don't post anymore. _________________ MiS |

That's my feeling as well, Rachel. Let's face it, John elected to call his website "The Radio 2 Preservation Society", a name that implies that its membership consists of people who don't wish the station to be tampered with or even destroyed by those in a position to do so.
Naturally, I think the "Chris Evans factor" is key to the downhill slide on which I consider the station to be, so my vested interest is to highlight the negative effect that Evans and his ilk are having on the once-great station. It's subjective, of course; we all have our opinions.
The other key thing to bear in mind as well is that forums such as these are spidered very efficiently by Google and other search engines, meaning that content will be widely available to all those who search on key words - so if we're to have any kind of impact on the decision-making processes at the BBC and elsewhere we just have to keep banging away at it. Otherwise, what's the point of a "preservation society mouthpiece" on the web if members choose only to sit around discussing the weather whilst drinking virtual tea and eating virtual cucumber sandwiches rather than to debate real issues and recommend real solutions in a public forum?
As you say, members who don't like the constant references to a given topic can simply avoid them and engage themselves in other unrelated threads. What's the problem?

I've always thought it funny, too - especially when people announce that they're "resigning from the forum", etc etc. There was a whole spate of such declarations on the R2MB a few years back, and also on that ill-fated Jezzasexiles forum.
Most amusing. The content of a forum like this is just data stored on a remote web server, after all!!! |

It's a problem because every thread does seem to come back to "he who must not be named" or whatever you're all calling Evans that day.
I completely understand why Shaky's left, and why he's left a message. If he hadn't left the message, there'd just be five people left moaning about Chris Evans and wondering where everyone else has gone. I still miss Ernie. |

Yes, I can see your point. However, I think it's fair to say that Evans' name is mentioned again and again simply because (in the opinion of some - including myself, in case you hadn't already sussed!) his appointment as Breakfast Show host has angered so many people who really do see standards plummeting at R2.

That’s just not true, Ian.
Top Ten Threads in Shows and Music.
1 Sarah Kennedy’s departure (not about Chris Evans)
2. Sound of the 60s (not about Chris Evans)
3.Pick of the Pops (not about Chris Evans)
4. Bill Kenwright’s Golden Years (not about Chris Evans)
5. Paul Weller is on tonight. (not about Chris Evans)
6. Johnnie Walkers Bee Gees Documentary (not about Chris Evans)
7. Blonde on Blonde (not about Chris Evans)
8.Show in a Field (is about a Chris Evans Show- but not Chris Evans)
9. Lynn Parsons (not about Chris Evans)
10.Evans Losing Listeners (is about Chris Evans)
There’s a lot of stuff there to talk about that isn’t Chris Evans but having said that, Chris Evans has hosted the two most popular shows on Radio 2 in recent years so it stands to reason that people will talk about him.
Being a Geordie lass and a Newcastle United Fan, I tend to see things like a Newcastle United Fan – in black and white.
If someone were to turn up at St James Park on the Saturday Afternoon of a home game with a loud haler pointed at the Leazes, or worse still, the Gallowgate End and said, rather rudely “this used to be good Football Team when Supermac was around but now, you’re all boring – so I’m not coming here again- I suspect that, that someone would get more than just a little help out of Stadium if not Tyne and Wear!
I miss Ernie too... and Captain P and PJ. |

Yes it is! Everyone's blaming him. Evans is mentioned as soon as Post 3!

Chris Evans is the Chris Evans Show, surely? Either way, same old stuff for most of that thread.

OK... so 3 out of 7 at the moment. But it does seem a lot more! |

Doh! Now you’ve gone and moved the goalposts to strengthen your argument, so I’ll have to countermove with, if you look at the top 57 threads in shows and music it’s still just the same 3 mentions of Chris Evans … so a tiny 5.26%. Chris broadcasts for 2.5 hrs out of 24 each weekday, which is 10.41% of daily available weekday airtime, so I’d say our posts about him in Shows and Music are under-represented by nearly 50% |

Sorry to see Shaky Fan deserting us.
As others have said, Chris Evans is not the top subject of threads here, but threads about him may attract many/more posts because it's a "you either like him or you don't" thing, and that will produce discussion as he currently occipies a prime slot that every R2 listener would like to listen in to every morning but many can't, they just can't.
Sarah K is/was a "you either like her or you don't" thing too and must have been attracting the next highest number of posts.

Hmmm. For some reason, I don't believe your figures (as Evans - or, more specifically, "I don't listen to breakfast") comes up in three of the next 10 threads too, then four of the next 10 |

I packed in posting for the same reasons, so i can understand totally it does get really wearing. Lets just hope Christine Bleakleys short skirts are more appealling than R2 for a while eh? |

Christine Bleakley has a cracking pair of legs, that's for sure. Okay, so it's a very un-PC thing to say but I don't care!

There is also the thread about the one show and the one on here about protocol, also the thread about Mark Thompson.
I wonder if it might be best to have a separate Chris Evans section, we have one for Jeremy. |
