If you missed the first half hour this morning- you missed a real treat- the music was brilliant! Check it out on the i-player later. ( That's not an order- you can do something else if you'd like too) Kicked off with Stairway to Heaven- full version.... and that was just for starters.
The music in the first half hour has been much better all week but they saved the best for Friday. Yay!

You mean Evans didn't interrupt Jimmy's guitar solo?

I often give the show a few minutes each morning, just a few Confused I will check out the playlist later.

I was a Beatles/prog rock/punk/ electro fan over 3 decades and despair that so much of R2 showlists are soft rock and current chart. Over the next 3 decades I got more into the specialist shows and and now am a light /classical freak Laughing

Hmmm, breakfast show is playing a great early Elvis Costello number. Cool.

But since then it's been rubbish talking about his mum's birthday and some 'challenges', so switched off.

Does sound good this morning - even Paolo Nutini, who's something of a "guilty pleasure". Stairway's cracking at any time, although there are some who will say it's overplayed. Missed that this morning, due to a household hitch, but couldn't resist a good bop/air guitar around to Quo on here Wink

Good music or not, I'd still have to tolerate listening to Evans between the tracks. Nothing's worth that risk - so I'll stick with iTunes. I have every Led Zeppelin album on there, including "Stairway".

Anyhow, I prefer the first and second Zeppelin albums - though I'd be surprised if Evans can name one single track from them.

My favourite Zep album was the third for a while, must play it again soon. I saw them when Houses of the Holy was out. All my Zep is still vinyl Smile

Anyway, Evans apart, I still think the show's playlist is NOT breakfasty.

I'd be surprised if he couldn't actually. He may be annoying sometimes but I think he's got a good popular music brain and memory. He will often play something new that's not a cover but refer back to an oldie that sounds similar. Now that may not be extra special, but it is what you would expect of a good DJ

Love Rachel's typo in the title of this thread!

The Chris Evans BEAKFAST show.

I was in hurry Smile

Yeah full version of Stairway - no talking over it, there was" bugggi bugggi bugggi" a few seconds in but we can live with that. Smile

I've just been listening to Zepp's "Stairway". Evans didn't talk over it at all. That's because it was playing from my own music library!!! Smile

I think Stairway is overplayed.. Laughing I'd rather hear "The Lemon Song" for a change.
I heard a bit of the show again this morning whilst having a scrub up and personally, I'll be glad when that Moira Stewart woman goes off for a month! she's soooo out of place on the show it's painful. ( Babe.. yuk )
I also thought it in bad taste that Evans made several sickly comments about her not giving much notice before going away... it's not like she's a main stay of the BBC is she? fans of Sarah K didn't get any notice from her or the Beeb... and she was somebody!

But again, for what ever reason, I was cringing hearing Evans go on about his mum's birthday and his side kick & MS fawning over him.

Luckily, I'm getting really quick in and out of the bathroom lately!

Anything Led Zep related (especially all that bloody new Robert Plant stuff they're overplaying) is tedious in the extreme. If I'd been listening, I'd have been grateful for Evans shouting after the record - it would have woken me up!

I was lucky enough to have seen the original line-up of Led Zeppelin in the 70s and I have to say they were anything but "tedious". In fact, they remain the best rock band I've ever seen.

My son and several of his musician mates often tell me how much they envy me! Smile

Rolfy went down well at Guildfest one year when I went. He did 'Stairway To Heaven' in his set. Led Zep wise I like hearing 'Kashmir'; I remember John Inverdale playing 'Misty Mountain Hop' when doing Drivetime a few years ago.

Not worth tuning in to the 'Orrible Evans show for that priviledge. I can get the 8 minutes of Led Zepp in iTunes. No Evans guaranteed!

Thanks Soulie... I like to think at 58 years old, I've retained my sense of humour! Even though I'm surrounded by hassle and pressure inducing activities at the moment ( nothing serious I hasten to add, unlike some unfortunate people these days ), I can still laugh it off, wind my staff up and manage to sing my head off for most of the day! Laughing

I just spent an enjoyable half an hour looking at clips of Rolfie on youtube. What a legend!! It's so easy to take performers like him for granted and tbh I've never given him a second thought really. He's been around since I was a kid - but I just watched him and his band do Sun Arise at Glasto last year and it was bloody good! Seriously!

Love the way he's happy to take the mick out of himself as well - the Stairway to Heaven being a classic example.

See ... all this from a Chris Evans thread Surprised

My friend recently acquired a Digeridoo as he was having a problem with noisy neighbours
It's very relaxing to hear it but I think that must just be my view as the problem neighbours left yesterday
Apparently they couldn't stand the noise
Thank God for Rolf Harris!

I used to love his TV show on Saturday evenings back in the late 60s when life was in black & white and the show featured The New Generation dancers.

He always used to set about putting paint (from Dulux-sized tins) onto a large canvas with a decorators paint brush. He'd always produce the most amazing picture and then round it off with a song that's linked to the picture.

Interestingly, I think we got closest to the real Rolf Harris in "Who do you think you are?".

CE falls out with all his sycophants sooner or later, Johnny never sounded that comfortable on Drivetime, so I guess this has continued on Breakfast?

A poster on Digital Spy has also said that the Breakfast show producer is also leaving, although I cannot find a source for this.

I can't see Mr Saunders undertaking his teaching career in a state school considering in the past he's frequently been in the habit of banging on about his public school education on air

Oh well, one annoying person gone as well as the producer apparently - that only leaves one more to go Smile

Ken Bruce made a remark about a few of Chris's team leaving, but the only press release has been about Jonny.
