Morning and welcome everyone.

Sorry to have to post this here - but I can't find a technical questions department, and I'm guessing more people will look in this thread than any others at the moment (John please do move this post if it's not appropriate here).

Can anyone tell me how to delete a post (I've had a few posts appear twice for some reason) and also how to put music links - youtube and suchlike into posts. I can't get the hang of it at the moment.

Many thanks.

Yes Soulie, when you view your post, there's a little cross on the extreme right side at the top.. click on it and you'll get the chance to delete the post! Razz

I can't see the little cross Santa. Do you mean when you are writing the post or when it's posted? I'm not too sure if I'm seeing the forum right actually (I have had this problem on another board before). I'm on a Mac/Safari browser?

I am looking and looking and I can't see a cross anywhere?

Thanks H I'll go read John's post as I want to get some music threads going.

Yes, you're right... the little cross is only shown when you view your post IF it's the last message.. so I'm assuming you can only delete it if it's the last on the thread.. after that you may only be able to edit it.

Being admin/mod I see an x box on all posts so I don't know if the x disappears later after some time for members (some forums it's 15 minutes).

Anyway if anyone wants to delete a message just PM me to delete it, or if you can still edit your post just remove all the text and leave a blank message.

The technical advice/instructions on this site might be a bit sparse and old. There may be useful threads in the Views And Suggestions Section (bottom of home page).

The forum software (phpBB) is "operating system / browser agnostic" and the buttons don't vary between one and another. I'm using Safari on a Mac right now without any problems.

To clarify, once you've submitted a post and it's entered into the database you're able to delete it or edit it as long as no posts have been added to the thread. You can, however, edit a post at any time afterwards by the using the little "X" tab in the top right corner of the Edit window. Having edited and re-submitted a post where other posts have since been added, you'll see a text notification at the bottom of the display window. If your post is the most recent, this won't show. However, Admins can elect that this isn't displayed at all (I have this option on my forums, as it happens, as I don't see the point of it).

If, however, you wish a post to be deleted at a later date (and when another post socceeds it) you need to ask the Admin or a Moderator to do it for you as it's an action that can only be performed in the Admin Control Panel (ACP).

Cheers everyone. Sorry to sound so dense. I've figured out how to edit - I'll have a look at the links thing in a minute.

All it was - in a few threads my posts have appeared twice. Dunno what I did wrong, and I only noticed it later when scrolling through reading the threads. Too late to change it now ... I'll just keep an eye on it when I post in future.

Welcome to all the newcomers and sorry to hijack this thread but I didn't know where else to post.

It could be that the server was being slow to accept a new submission and, in the delay, you clicked again with the result that two entries were made to the database. If nothing has been added to the thread you should be able to delete the duplicate submission. If not, John can do it in the ACP.

I noticed that the server was running a bit slow about an hour ago - a bottleneck due to things being busy? Can't complain at that eh John? Smile

It was most satisfying logging on one time this week to find 20 threads were active!

And looking just now I see we have had 32 new members join since R2 announced their boards were closing.

By the way, the smilies/images I have access to are at the R3ok (Radio 3) site, it's a sister site really but I don't run it anymore.

Here, R2ok USED TO have an archive Photobucket site with loads of smilies and Radio 2 images of studio web-camera stills etc but a nasty person must have deleted it (the password was on a thread)

It's not usually that difficult to install new ones into the phpBB installation - although I don't know what the implications are given that hosting is by a third party (BizHat). I can't imagine that it's much different though.

It took the Radio 2 board closure to give me that final push Razz Rolling Eyes

Its a good site...I cannot believe I am on post 14 already Shocked

I suppose two reasons delayed me(maybe three)

As you say, if the other place stops you posting links(that doesn't help)
Then I'm still on dial up Embarassed
and...being a mod at the other board it took some of my online time up...but hey, we're here thanks to John... Very Happy
