How do you like yours?
It came up over the breakfast run this morning. Do you like yours as plain bread with butter or, toasted with butter??
I've never heard, or thought of toasted soldiers but it's changed my life as it makes sense!
"untoasted" soldiers are subject to breakage whilst dipping and of course going floppy whilst on route to the mouth... whearas their stiffer cousins seem made for the job.
What do you prefer? Laughing

And I thought they were the only kind of soldiers you had with a boiled egg..... Very Happy

Yummy! Soldiers. I’ve not tried them toasted, I like mine as double soldiers with proper butter, no crusts. Take a slice of home made bread, spread butter evenly across the entire slice, fold in half, cut off the crusts, then cut into soldiers. To avoid breakage, it’s only one dip per soldier – then eat the entire thing. It’s important to sprinkle just a little salt into the egg before each dip.

If you’re feeling really adventurous, take a cup filled with a slice of buttered bread, torn into little chunks, then peel two soft boiled eggs (be jolly careful not to burst them) , then mash the eggs into the bread, sprinkle with salt- eat with spoon. Yummy!

Toast with poached eggs, soldiers of fresh, buttered (proper butter) white bread into boiled egg with the yolk still soft and, yes, blow the p/c food police, a sprinkle of salt each time.

The cup of mashed eggy bread just sounds a tad close to baby food, though.

They are delicious SF. I first had them at a Happy Eater (remember them?) motorway services and they are yummy.
