In other words Light Music!

I'm sure we had an Alan Titchmarsh Thread on here but can't find it so thought this might be a good time to start another general one.

I like quite a lot of it as I think a few others on here do too.

I'm rather partial to some of the old musicals and Gershwin's Girl Crazy has some lovely tunes and I do like the overture arrangenent. It was the opener to last Saturday's Proms in the Park featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra so here's the link if anyone would like a quick listen again.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00tprdd

You'll need to be quick as I expect it will only be there until tomorrow night.

I don't always listen to Proms in the Park but it helped pass the time on our journey back from the NE last Saturday.

Some weeks go by and the only times I have listened to R2 shows IS Friday and Sunday, and sometimes use iplayer for them too. And I always enjoy much of what I get a chance to hear.

There IS a Titchy thread:

http://r2ok.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=4481

I do enjoy many of Alan's selections for his show, much of it I'm sometimes very familiar with as I have a goodly collection here of light classical, songs from films and musicals (and not just the original artistes).

I'm a researcher too when it comes to jazz, variety, dance bands and songwriters from that era so enjoy very much Russell Davies and Clare Teal's shows, though Clare still plays a limited number of British recordings.

Desmond on Fridays is just so unpredictable it's always a delight. We have grandchild staying with us tonight and she'll hopefully be in her beddy-byes before Desmond Smile though Mrs W might then start twitching at a take-away menu Rolling Eyes

I usually only catch Despond if I'm out driving on a Friday night (otherwise I'm in the pub as I will be soon!) but when I do listen I can't help being envious of the situation in which he's able to broadcast - from home, in Scotland, with his own music to share.

What a life! As I get older I find that I really do like his broadcasting style. It's so laid back and makes you feel that he's talking to you personally and saying "Tell you what, have a listen to this. You'll like it". Which, of course, is exactly what a good radio broadcaster should be - in my humble opinion.

He was my refuge from the Ginger Whinger (on TV) this evening. Infinitely preferable!

I have my little grand daughter staying with me this weekend,John, and I didn't make the start of Alan's show tonight....thank goodness for Listen Again.. what a boon that is.. .by the time her bath and bed time story was done and I had tidied round and done some other things I turned the radio on and Beth Nielson Chapman was on ..I really don't know a lot of her work but remember RB is a fan and I must say she has been mesmerising me with her lovely voice and beautiful songs....I must investigate further. Any suggestions where I should start RB? Smile

Hi Becky

It's an excellent concert, isn't it - the sound is very good tonight. I've recorded it - something to put on disc for morning journeys Smile

I would probably recommend Deeper Still, as it has many of my favourites on Smile

I like her new album, Back to Love, as well.

I heard that too - I don't usually catch DC's show but managed tonight, H&B were absolutely brilliant.

It would be so pleasant if Bill Kenwright could be incorporated with Radio 2's weekend programming. I'd love to hear more of him on Radio 2. I hope he returns for a new series.

Is this the thread where you come along on a Monday morning and say how AWFUL this programming is, how it should be AXED, how its only listened to by COFFIN DODGERS and how Ken Bruce should be axed and replaced by the EXCELLENT ZOE BALL even though you don't listen to the shows?

Very Happy

I have to admit I did a double-take on the thread title - thinking for a split second that it might have been originated by, er, you know who..... Shocked

Thankfully, it wasn't! Very Happy

I did wonder for one millisecond how that person was filling his time since now he doesn't have to keep his axe sharpened!

Love MC Desmo and FNIMN (not too keen on the Kiri Prize, mind) but I find Sundays more of a mixed bag. The evening is perfectly pleasant but daytime lurches from style and pace that I find hard to settle with.

Why is Mr Carrington called MC Desmo?

Howard,

Who is censoring? I didn't say close the thread, I suggested starting new ones about the weekend schedule Confused

MC Desmo is a nickname given by another presenter, I think it was Stuart Maconie but someone may correct me on that.

Yes, when Desmond preceded Radcliffe & Maconie they affectionately nicknamed him MC Desmo.

Not at all Gibbo.

This thread is part of the forum, a kind of thankful thread, thankful that we have moved away from the disrespectful attitudes that in the past have existed here and elsewhere (looking for a smiley with a finger touching wood)

No I'd say leave it. It's a topical reflection on what's happened.

I think it's just nice to put all the troll talk behind us (but save it).

New threads will allow fans of the weekend schedule or individual shows have their own thread with a fresh start, but of course there are some other existing threads too.
