.......the album "Pink Moon" by Nick Drake, which I absolutely love. It's playing from one of my many iTunes playlists on my Mac and fills the room as I attempt to get some more work done. Sublime.

Richard Thompson's new CD Dream Attic - a bit more cheerful, or a bit less gloomy, than usual, I think.

I saw Richard and Linda Thompson quite a few times during my 1970s student days. They were good.

I like all the choices previously posted. At the moment, Us And Them by Pink Floyd, is playing on my radio. Okay, it's 36 years old.

I just wish I was. Smile

For me it's now "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (the Floyd's tribute to Syd Barrett) which isn't much younger to "Us And Them"!

Wish I was 21 again!

For the last couple of weeks - Stray Cats "Rock This Town" and "Runaway Boys" have been blasting from my car's system... way too loud, especially with the hood down! Embarassed
Working indoors this morning I had "Joe's Garage" by the master Frank Zappa..

""It wasn't very large, There was just enough room to cram the drums in the corner over by the Dodge.. It was a fifty-four with a mashed up door and a cheesy little amp, with a sign on the front said "Fender Champ" and a second hand guitar.. it was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar... ""

How can you beat that? Razz Razz

Becky, to be honest looking back I think it was the most open there were a few conteders that year, I loved the Go! team album as well as Bloc Party's brilliant Silent Alarm, Maximo Park and I don't dislike KT Tunstell either. THey all could have won and i'd been ok with it, Hard fi, Kaiser cheifs and Coldplay maybe not

No matter what people say about the Mercury I love the fact that it's very much like the booker prize, as a fan it's the shortlist that's more interesting than just the winner.

Don't laugh - right now I'm listening to Phil Collins album of Motown songs, "Going Back". PC and Motown are favourites of Mrs Rockit and she's got it on full blast. It has had a fearful critical mauling, but actually it's not bad from a musicianship point of view. Collins vocals are thin when you listen on headphones, but you don't notice it so much on her portable.

Update: She thinks it's "disappointing", but better than Rod's.

One of my favourites, " You Don't Know Me" by Ray Charles, has just been played in the film "Grounhog Day".. which is great because he was also on SLS this morning with "I can't Stop Loving You" Razz

I'm currently listening to a superb album originally released in 1969
Sounds like the Flirtations
It was reissued earlier this year and is available at Amazon
I can honestly say there is not a single bad track on it and as people may recall the girls although American were based in the UK
I always thought they were by far the best female group of the 60s but never really got the same recognition as the Supremes etc
I was recently watching some U Tube footage of when the Wigan Casino closed and also the 30th anniversary party which took place in what is now a shopping mall in Wigan and the Flirtations turned up there and did a great show nearly 40 years after their chart success
If you like Northern Soul and the like I strongly urge you to give it a listen

Yes Becky Nothing but a Heartache was their best known single and biggest hit but the follow up Whats Good about Goodbye my Love is an absolute classic and I still can't understand why it never made the charts
I remember in the 60s my dad used to enjoy visiting old churches and other historic buildings and one weekend we were down in South Wales staying in Tintern as he wanted to look round Tintern Abbey
Having made a special journey he was somewhat annoyed when we got there that the place was closed off because some pop group were filming there which at aged 14 I found quite amusing
It turned out that it was The Flirtations and my dad left in disgust but naturally I wanted to stay to see what was going on
All these years later as you may know the video is on UTube and it always brings back fond memories every time I watch it
Its definitely very 60s with the salmon pink trouser suits!!!

Right, I'm coming out! I don't care what any of you think, I've lived a lie for too long. Embarassed

About a month ago the In concert Thursday show (which shamefully replaced R&M from their slot) featured a repeat of The Producers show on the BeeGees, followed by their last session recorded for the BBC in 2001/2?

I didn't listen then but downloaded the programme for listening later, which I've been doing today. Absolutely terrific stuff, interesting, great music and immaculately presented by Rich Allinson.

Exclamation Blaming it on....the lights on Broadway..... Exclamation WONDERFUL

age makes me ignorant on the Flirtations, Really love that Nothing but a heartache, not so sure about the What's goog about Goodbye my love, slower, not so dancey. Did I read rigfht they were British?

R2 board closed and I'm still getting modded this time by POV, really going to have to move over here full time Twisted Evil

Just heard Beggin by Frankie Valli on Steve wright, not realised it was by him, I keep coming across tracks by him that totally blow me away. This is great now up there with Night as two of my favorite tracks

Listening to one of the CDs I picked up for £3 in HMV's sale recently...
Nell Bryden's What Does It Take? An old fashioned sound, difficult to pigeon-hole - country, blues, jazz, rockabilly.

Undiscovered I hear what you say
The Flirtations were from South Carolina and were previously called The Gypsies but changed their name when they moved to Britain in or around 1966
They did quite a few sessions for Radio 1 shows in the late 60s and you can catch up with several of their well known tracks on U Tube
One track I would single out from the album is Carolina which is a track about their home town in America and its very evocative even for someone who has never been there

If you want to hear a different version of a classic show tune, then have a listen to Neil Young & Crazy Horse giving 'On Broadway' the rock treatment. I think it works too!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Uw5QoMmH1g I'll be more than happy to give Elaine Page 10/10 if she ever features that on her Sunday show!!

No Expectations - Nanci Griffith
We Have To Be So Careful - Beverly Sisters
She Said She Said - Beatles
From Now On - Supertramp
My Father's Gun - Elton John
Stop! In The Name Of Love - Kim Weston

I've been doing a bit of random searching on Spotify whilst attempting to do some work (and failing dismally!) and I'm now listening to Santana's "Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time". I don't normally like covers albums, but given that Carlos Santana is still at the top of his game I decided to give it a blast. It's really impressive - my two favourite tracks being The Doors' "Riders On A Storm" (on which Santana is joined by Chester Bennington and Ray Manzarek) and also Hendrix's "Little Wing" with Joe Cocker on vocals.

And, of course, Carlos Santana's guitar playing is as stunning as ever! Cool

It's not an album I'd be tempted to buy, but it's on Spotify so worth giving it a blast.

Since watching the Herb Alpert prog the other night I've got into his Tijauna brass stuff (many of the tunes reminding me of my childhood).

Also like the Sergio Mendes/Brasil 66 material he produced, its all just feel good stuff.

That also led me to revisit Squeeze's 1981 East Side Story LP, a great album, most of it produced by Elvis Costello, along with Dave Edmumds, Paul Carrack also being a member of Squeeze at the time.

It was interesting to hear Herb Alpert saying (as a founder of A&M) that they always expected Squeeze to go global, but it was the Police who did, when they were considered the lesser signing at the time.

Try this Scorpio recommended this and I can't get enough, not really sure what it is similar to bit 80's musically but not the usual vocal style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qNqI4mc1m8

No I don't mind you shortening my name compared with oother things I get called that is fine (not really sure why I called myself that it was a long time ago now since I first registered on the R2 board 5 years maybe)

I thought it was similar to Antony and the Johnsons voice, not a bad thing. He's on Jools this week

Moonraker where are they on?
Do they still have the original lineup
Jan Akkerman etc
I saw a couple of years ago he was giving guitar masterclasses at Birkenhead Arts Centre
Can't remember the other well known name in the band
I used to have their music on all the time whilst revising for my A Levels many years ago
