Ken Bruce mentioned that he will be playing tracks by various artists who have appeared live on the programme and started it off with a track by Rumer.

I wasn't aware of the original session and wondered if the likeness to Karen Carpenter would be apparent in something other than the single, Slow. I'm still wondering, as it was live version of the single that was played. This used to happen with album tracks as well, rather missing the point of featuring an album, if you're only going to play the single.

With Radio 2's play list having rather more influence on what's played than it should, surely an opportunity like this, to hear other tracks by an artist, should be grabbed and taken advantage of?

Totally agree Ally
I was only the other day moaning that last week when the Manic were live on Drivetime they played the single which is constantly played already on the network but none of the new album tracks
Pleased to see that Ken is featuring the album this week

I'm wondering why they are 'bigging' these sessions up?

Is it maybe the In Concert series is not as popular as they thought it would be and they are trying to say 'you will like it or else'? Or is there to be a big push for the Great British Songbook tracks that keep appearing on Drivetime?

Can't say I'm impressed with either of them. I didn't hear the live session with Rumer either but must admit I'm not listened to that much R2 lately.

I noticed that Jeremy Vine did repeat a track from the Lady Antibellum session done for Drivetime a while ago and he did play something other than the well known singles
I think it was a cover they did of a Radiohead track but my knowledge of Radiohead is sketchy to say the least

They might be promoting them ahead of the electric Proms in October. I'm not sure if Ken's just going to play stuff from his own guests or maybe some of Simon's, but I suppose time will tell.

Was Rumer live on Ken's show originally Ally?

I was listening to her this morning but didn't catch all of what he said. I don't remember hearing her on his show though.

PS nice to see you over here!

Helen I think the original session was on Ken's show although like you I don't remember it
I think he said something about it today when he was introducing the track
I'm not sure because I was on the phone at the time

I don't think this new feature is just for Ken's show as Simon also did a similar thing, almost word-for-word tonight before playing an Amy Whinehouse session from Dermot O'Leary's show.

It's a nice idea, but will be good if they replay tunes that aren't just the latest single, and if it isn't just one big promotion for the In Concert show on Thursdays.

Ha, it must have been. I wrote it without the "h" and didn't think it looked right.

I can't find any mention of Rumer's live session or remember it ever being mentioned, but thought it was maybe just me. It was probably someone else's show.

You can hear other tracks free on her website and she will be appearing in the Electric Proms in October, with HRH Elton John.

Ken's showlisting says it came from "Radio 2 Recommends" which I think was on around the start of the year, and was a series of extended sessions by the hotly-tipped new acts. Can't remember if the presenter was O'Leary or Gambo.

I keep hearing Rumer on Magic & they keep raving how she sounds like Karen Carpenter. Hmmm. Not sure about the comparison. I'll listen to some more of her stuff. She's certainly being given a big push in the media
