http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/8014008/Sarah-Kennedy-I-was-never-never-never-drunk-on-Radio-2.html

She also said that she believes she has an enemy at the BBC who is responsible for the persistent rumours that she went on the air drunk.

“I have never, never, never in my life gone into the BBC other than being stone cold sober,” said Kennedy. “It wouldn’t even occur to me. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.”

Although this is front page on the Daily Telegraph, it got no mention on Chris Evans' "review" of the papers.

Hm. The rumours come from the times she sounded drunk on air, and listeners commenting on that. It's no grand conspiracy.

But how interesting that she mentions Alan Dedicoat by name and doesn't appear to have an issue with the current Radio 2 Controller.

People will leap to conclusions.

Drugs, eg for blood pressure, can also slow speech.

Yeah, but these rumours have been around for years - it's not just the edition the other month that she talks about in the article.

Sorry! I don't have any inside info, but I always thought dedicoat sounded obnoxious & sarah did mention his name. I was just going on a hunch

I'm sure Sarah is totally aware who it was who stuck the knife in at R2 and I'm sure there's much she'll keep to herself for years yet. However, if there's a finger to be pointed at Dedlycoat she isn't going to say so in an interview with the Telegraph for fear of being sued for libel. That's the reality of it all.

Now we know why the message boards were removed from the BBC site, coupled with the fact that the new morning presenters, ( and I don,t mean Aled Jones who is a short term stand) in must surely be due to announced soon.

I like the peice she never met Dermot or Chris Moyles. I wonder how many people she actually met? It was always known Sarah left the building straight after the show. I was surprised the producers and even the controller never moved her from the slot too something comfortable? The listeners will say there was a conspiracy to get rid of her, which I beleive there was. Hope she returns to the airwaves soon. I reckon Strictly Come Dancing would be good instead of Dancing On Ice.

I can't see her doing that either. Programmes like Strictly need people who are recognisable "faces" and it could be argued that SK has been doing radio for so long that she wouldn't be enough of a "celeb" for viewers. Let's face it, she hasn't done telly since Busman's Holiday and how many years ago was that?

(NB: Funny how she says in the article that she walked from the show. She didn't. ITV's then programme director David Liddiment replaced her as main presenter without even telling her first - she found out about it on the grapevine).

I've seen the trailers for the new series and I don't recognise half of them!

To me it seems to be a case of the fact that the views of one influential person within the BBC were allowed to take precedence over the views of millions of listeners who used to listen to the show
Personally I did not like Sarah's style of presentation but there's no doubt that she was treated very badly and I hope she does tell all in a book before too long
The point about the timing of the removal of the Radio 2 Messageboards is very well made

A very big working place like the BBC some could start to become paranoid. With respect to Sarah she has recognised what went wrong. Sarah carried on to the bitter end, because she may have felt I didn't want to keep letting people down going sick all the time. I think at the end of the day - you get to the stage and think about number one. It's a shame some were bloody minded towards her and never felt to tell or help. This is why people started to accuse her of drinking etc instead of finding what the real reason was. Sometimes the air needs to be cleared first - those who said 'this should be ashamed of those acts.

Mark, the BBC is already a very paranoid working place and has been since the "Kelly" witch-hunt which led to the regrettable resignation of Greg Dyke.

Just like Johnnie Walker revealed his true feelings about Lesley Douglas and losing Drivetime to Chris Evans.

I wish Paul Gambaccini would publish his thoughts too! He was very vocal during the Russell Brand / Jonathan Ross debacle.

What's this Kettle? I wasn't aware that Johnnie had made his thoughts public. I switched off Drivetime from the day Evans took over and that was that, but I had always been under the assumption that Johnnie went of his own accord. Did he get the boot because of you know who against his will?

Why would Alan Deddicoat plot against Sarah?
I can't see where this has come from.

It's a bit more complicated but he was none to pleased when his return to Drivetime was denied him by Lesley Douglas, who had by then "re-discovered" Evans. Poor misguided woman.

Johnnie gives readers an insight in his fine book (he signed my copy!!!) and he also hints at it in his one-man shows from time to time.

Perhaps because they're not the best of friends? Who knows?

That woman was obsessed with Evans!

From the moment he joined it was disruption all round - Richard Allinson got shoved aside, the Saturday schedule disrupted, then Johnnie, then he gets Breakfast and SK's schedule goes up the spout and now she's gone. On TV, Adrian Chiles ends up moving ... and for what? A 90s radio one throwback who shouts a lot.

I bet he's really popular with all his 'colleagues' at Radio 2. Laughing

Mark Lamarr summed it up best!

I could never detect any animosity between Sarah and Alan Dedicot. I did however note that Alan was always unwilling to join in with Sarah when she was commenting on the possible favouritism shown to Moira Stuart. Perhaps a few too many digs from dear Sarah didn't help matters with the "favoured one".

Just to add, I think we may well get an idea of "who is actually pushing who" when they announce who will be the permanent replacement

viz The Guardian 3 Sept
"Parsons will continue to present the 5am show for the next four weeks but the station's early morning schedule expected to be revamped after that.
'Bob Shennan, controller of Radio 2 and Radio 6 Music, will announce plans for the new-look schedule shortly".

I do hope we get someone with a similar show genre to Sarah, but somehow with the current trend of R2 programmers favouring the dreadful "zoo" formats

With the current trend, they are likely to move Zoe Ball to the early morning slot. Oh what joy, just think of the fun during the hand-over to CE!!!

There appears another take on this story in the Mail. I know they have not been her greatest fan but I did notice this comment But there are also fingers being pointed at the Evans effect.

I doubt it. If that article is anything to go by, they don't know a thing unless it's published in the Daily Telegraph first.

The Mail article (what on earth am I doing reading anything by the Mail for heaven's sake?) looks like a direct lift of the contents of the article in the Telegraph, which does actually speak volumes for the quality of "journalism" in the Mail (ie: "It must be true if it's in the Mail" etc etc).

Anyway, that aside...... On the basis of her hunches about those who would have preferred her out of the organisation but didn't have the guts to confront her about it, it looks like she might have a case for Constructive Dismissal.

The mail sitting on the back foot of the Telegraphs story. Then add Sarah's Biography, her back ground, and listeners comments from the Radio 2 message boards and make up a total Bo&&ocks story to make her look good and bad and there credit for the story. Reading some of the nasty comments are really hurtful. It dosn't matter what you look like at least Sarah delivered to the nation with a good listener following. I like one part the Mail have picked up on " Classic FM" - yes some are at fault for mentioning that, but if we hadn't would it'll been published? I wonder where the Mail will get there information from in the future Rolling Eyes "HELLO MAIL JOURNALISTS WELCOME" Wink

I actually used the phrase "constructive dismissal" in one of my last posts on the R2MB - needless to say it was deleted. (post just after mine was from guess who).

I rarely listened to Sarah after her shunt to the daybreak hours so have no theory about spats with Deadly. I just assume that the person who seems to run the show at the station - ie the one who has taken over all the decent shows and wrecked them and in the process ousted any decent dj who shows up just how truly awful he is (excuse long paragraph) is responsible
