Just caught part of this Sky Arts programme this morning, an original sixties pop show hosted by Brain Matthew, with Alan Freeman and Kent Walton there too.
The music? Great, but mimed, studio performances from The Hollies, The Applejacks, The Swinging Blue Jeans etc.
So what was the original name of the show? It's not Ready Steady GO or Thank Your Lucky Stars as they had audiences
The programme is followed now by Swinging UK, same sort of thing, with Merseybeats, Millie etc and Brain Matthew, Alan Freeman and Kent Walton. _________________ -

Are you thinking of the film "Go, Go, Big Beat"? If so, this wasn't really a regular TV pop show but one of a trilogy of films about the developing 60s pop music boom. |

I expect you are right Colin, so I've just watched two of them, maybe there was one on earlier.
But odd that they changed the titles, to an oldie like me 'Swinging UK' made me think it was a programme featuring Ted Heath, Geraldo and the Squadronairres!
Anyway, they were entertaining. The band members looked so young and mainly wearing suits, which I think was something Epstein had always insisted on in the early Beatles days. _________________ -

I'll always remember Kent Walton as the wrestling commentator on World Of Sport on Saturday afternoons back in the 1970s. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I loved it when a wrestler came through the ropes and landed on the desk in front of him. Low budget Saturday afternoon telly at its best - I loved it! |

I loved the wrestling too...
Someone mentioned UK Swings and UK Swings Again on Digital Spy and I found they were on Sky Arts 1 this morning so watched them
As John says mimed and in may cases the groups looked awkward and unsure where to look.
And the talk between Brian Matthew, Kent Walton and Alan Freeman was stinted but worth a look and it was interesting. And it even featured some groups I have never heard of The Cockneys and The Wackers.
And who thought up the costumes for the Merseybeats(They have to be seen to be believed) |

Yes How did you guess?
I couldn't remember whether it was spelt with or without an "H" but I think there was a comedy TV series of the same name...
Funnily enough I could not find any reference to either group on the internet(that could just be me)but even as great as the web is I often can find myself struggling to find any information on things I look for.
BTW the costume of The Merseybeats were like Ruff design but the largest I have ever seen larger than the worst you could ever imagine being worn in Cavelier times... |

I used to love Kent Walton's wrestling commentaries on a Saturday afternoon and I think we lost something when live Saturday sport got kind of replaced by pure sports news shows like we have now
Does anyone remember Sid Wadell doing wrestling commentary because I read that he did do it before he switched to darts in the 70s?
I would love to have heard him and I'm sure it would have been in his usual flamboyant style |

This was on last night and I watched it then, really good!
As a sixties born girly, some of it was before my time, but I still enjoyed it, particularly the first half hour. |

Just caught the 'UK Swings Again' film on Sky Arts this afternoon. As noted above pretty stilted performances from the bands and Kent, Brian & Fluff. But good to see them in glowing Eastmancolour none the less.
It's on again at 18.30 and 20.30 today. |

Hi Andy
Thanks for that! I often forget to check those listings so I'll set the box now.
