I looked at this with trepidation, thought the news was going to be that she had got Dawn Patrol. Please don't scare me any more! Laughing

Just what I thought, too! Shocked

It's OK though - the "Breaking News" was merely that Zoe can now drive the desk. Phew! Cool

I'd love for Zoe to take over dawn patrol - but I bet she wouldn't take it even if offered.

I'd switch off if she took it over. That means that I'd be avoiding R2 completely for most of the day then!

This makes me think of a story you should hear.

I'm 26, and upon hearing about Sarah Kennedy's exit from the station, I sent a message to my friend with whom we've shared much joy over Sarah and Sir Terry.

Her reply: "We're now too old even for Radio 2"... says a lot, I think Wink

Sorry but I don't quite undertand, you listened to Sarah but now she's gone you are too old for R2, but you want Zoe Ball to take over the show ?

Zoe Ball to me is aimed at the 30 somethings that have grown up with her on R1, and still want the same show.

If Zoe took over Early Show it would mean she couldn't cover Ken Bruce anymore. Either the station will hold out for Lynn until Jan, or bring someone else in?

Which would put us in a kind of "lose, lose" situation when you think about it!

That's a very good question Mark. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Mr. Shennan has his work cut out! Cool

Ha, Nod - you've spotted my split allegiances. Actually, I think Zoe Ball has a similar broadcasting appeal to Sarah Kennedy. Zoe's a very uninhibited broadcaster, and her programmes always have a sense of welcoming me into her way of thinking but still leaving enough room for me to be surprised by what she has to offer.

Being a younger-than-usual Radio 2 listener, I'm happy to take the jokes about being "old before my time" but I think that misses the point of what Radio 2 was about when I first started listening a decade ago - it offered an inclusive good-humoured guide through the day that Radio 1 doesn't even attempt. Radio 1 feels like you're being attacked, and Radio 2 feels like you're being asked into the family. Zoe is a different broadcaster now to what she was in the 90's, as is Chris, as is Steve. Their shows might still be a little over-packed with features, but they've got something about the way they speak with the listener that sets them apart. I'm not saying they have this in the same quantities that Terry, Ken, and Sarah do - but I guess the new guys are still developing...
