I used to enjoy watching the Gadget Show when it first appeared. It was informative and whilst not everything they discussed would be of interest to myself, I could still enjoy looking at Suzy Perry...
However, more recently, the programme has become very 'childish' in way that the items were presented. Also, the 'manic' camera-work which now seems to be familiar to almost all scheduled programmes, has really put me off.
Anyway, a new programme has caught my attention, fronted by my dear friend Suzy Perry, has recently started (also on Channel 5) about photography and how to get the best photos...
It's on Tuesdays at 7.30pm.
So far the camera-work is not too bad, apart from the out-of-focus shots which seem to take them ages to clear...
So we will see how it goes!

I work with consumer electronics (testing, reviewing, etc) as part of my work and I'm so in awe at the complexity of technological development today that it really annoys me that such amazing technology is referred to collectively as "gadgets".
Like you, I think the Gadget Show is superficial and childish - it amazes me that people believe what they're being told by these so-called "experts". I get to see some products whilst they're still in development and when I later see them reviewed by the people on the Gadget Show I wonder if we've handled the same product half the time!
They don't always know what they're talking about (in factual terms) but come across as if they know everything about everything.
Ah well..... that's the popular media for you.

It's good to know that others feel the same as I do about this show.
I sometimes think that it's me who is 'out of touch' (because of my age)...

It seems to have gone more into the challenges rather than actually telling us about any gadgets, and as for testing stuff by blowing it up 
Any of you won the competitions ? |

Somebody who works in PR for one of the major brands told me that the Gadget Show wanted to test one of their camcorders that saved movie files to internal hard disc drive. This was at a time when such technology was quite new. To protect the fragile drives and write/read disc drive heads, they incorporate what's called a "G-Sensor" which switches everything off and parks the drive heads should the product suddenly head towards the ground (although you can switch it off when riding a rollercoaster or whatever!).
So the Gadget Show decided to test this on a product by "brand X" - by dropping it onto concrete until the body of the camcorder smashed and the tiny (and fragile) 1.8" HDD was remdered useless.
Needless to say, they thought it great fun, and proved that a G-Sensor can't always protect your material.
The brand manager at "brand X" and his team were absolutely livid, but couldn't do or say anything about it because brand exposure on the show is more important than a row.

My lad (age 15) loves it i think it trys to be a techy Top Gear,mind you i would watch Suzy Perry do the washing up.  |
