Was really sad to hear this news just now.... drop dead gorgeous in his day with a great acting ability and good sense of humour as shown in his interviews
Hollywood star Tony Curtis has died of a cardiac arrest at his US home in Nevada aged 85.
The Oscar-nominated actor, who starred in Some Like it Hot opposite Marilyn Monroe, passed away peacefully in bed, a family spokesman said.
The star received an Oscar nod in 1959 for The Defiant Ones, in which he starred with Sidney Poitier.
He also starred in Trapeze, Spartacus and 1970s crime TV series The Persuaders!

Me too Becks. I only just finished reading Tony's account of the making of 'Some Like It Hot' written fairly recently. A real insight into the characters and personalities, Billy Wilder, Jack Lemmon, Marilyn of course ... but without resorting to Kiss and Tell tactics, just a fascinating read.
He was great - drop dead gorgeous in his younger days, funny, down to earth, a bit of a rogue (but by all accounts from everyone who met him, an absolute gent, always polite and courteous to everyone whose path he crossed) and just a star in every sense of the word. They don't make them like him anymore.
I actually got quite trembly lipped reading some of the comments on the Mail site of all places ..

Maybe they'll have a season of his movies on TV.

I know he was essentially a film star, but I remember him for The Persuaders! Great TV. That wonderful John Barry theme tune takes me right back to the early 70s, winter Sunday afternoons watching The Big Match with Brian Moore followed by Tony Curtis and Roger Moore!

Just about perfect,Soulsis... ... nice to hear he was polite and courteous to everyone who crossed his path...what a star, as you say, in every sense of the word.....
Very nice first picture of him on The Mail page you posted.... Schizoidman wrote: | The Persuaders! | Andrew Collins played the theme from that on his 6 Music programme today as a tribute to him... |

Never see SLIH Marilyn has always scared me off, but I loved TC performances in Sparticus and Count on Monte Cristo
As posted earlier he seemed to be one of the nice guys,

His comedy successes unfortunately overshadowed his great performances in more serious dramas such as The Defiant Ones and the chilling Boston Strangler which I think was his best. |

I could not believe that Tony Parsons, doing a Curtis item for The Mirror, had not seen the film 'Goodbye Charlie'.
I know it's not a classic, but the hero falls in love with a woman who used to be a man (a gangster?) called Charlie.
Andre and Dory Previn wrote the theme song. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I watched 'Sweet Smell of Success' late last night on BBC 2. First time I've ever seen it. Tony Curtis was superb as Sldney Flaco a sleazy, fame hungry, press agent in the thrall of J.J. Hunsecker, a powerful and utterly ruthless newspaper columnist played with spine chilling brilliance by Burt Lancaster. Wonderful dialogue and photography - can't praise it highly enough.

Have never got round to watching Sweet Smell of Success,Sis, and managed to miss it again last night ....
Earlier on in the evening there was a repeat ( first shown in 2002) of Hollywood Greats: Tony Curtis on BBC 2 with Jonathan Ross doing the presenting. |
