About eight years ago we switched from Radio 1 to Radio 2 and just left it there- every radio in the house, garage, shed, cars, even my little personal MP3 Radio thing – all effectively hard wired to Radio 2.

This morning in bed – listening to Zoe Ball gabbling on ( I can never hear what she is saying) about something or other, I thought, I’m gonna change station. It’s a bit complicated on the bedside clock-radio, cos it’s an old one with a dial, so I waited until I was in the kitchen making breakfast. Scrolling though the digital stations on the DAB radio is really easy…. SOTs was on Radio 2 by the time I was up and about, so it was all 60s music, then……. Ooh Planet Rock- that sounds like fun…

And playing…..

Radar Love- Golden Earring

Doh!

Go carefully Mr Shennan- I'm a core listener, slap bang in the middle of your target.

The music's all right, but I would quickly tire of Rick "Grumpy Old Man" Wakeman wittering on (though not as quickly as I tire of Zoe Ball).

I'm usually out shortly after ten so they don't have to cater for me.

(Just perusing the Planet Rock playlist, it's apparent that, since the demise of The Arrow, it has become much less heavy)

This is balanced by David Jensen's presence, though, and the music is often very, very good. I've heard all manner of goodies I have heard for decades recently. And some of the chats between the two hosts have been very funny of late.

Planet Rock isn't perfect, but it's a damned sight more interesting than post-SOTS Radio 2 or the other mush coming from the likes of Heart and Smooth.

Day two... and I've not heard the same track twice yet... yay!

David Jensen's Sunday show is much, much better than anything on R2 on Sundays.

Well, apart from Johnnie, anyhow. In fact, I'd like him to jump ship to Planet Rock and do an afternoon show, then I could dump R2 altogether on Sundays.

I heard Jo Good on 6 music this morning and the first half of Cerys Matthews who follows on from Jo. Both are very good shows IMO.

I enjoyed Cerys when she sat in for Nemone a year or two ago.
