Now people will be able to roll some cheese down the hill Bill Murray will have to find another advert to sell Injury Lawers Claims . Could this mean Employers take no responsibilty for equipment that is provided?

At last!!....
Lord Young for Prime Minister!
I suggested years ago there should be a Minister for Commonsense in this country.. accidents happen, people have brains let's get on with it!
I refuse to take part in any H&S courses in my place, " I am quite capable of making my own decisions when it comes to my safety" I told the last money grabbing waste of space.
( What do Safety Managers and sperm have in common?.... Only one in two million ever does anything worthwhile. ) _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

When I worked for a large water utility, I was always grateful for the sign in the kitchen that said "Beware, hot water" over the hot water tap.
I'd never realised what that tap was for before. _________________ Minx

No, it's because the Tories want to see a return to Victorian workhouse conditions. |

I used to vet personal injury claims for solicitors firms where they were taking them on a no win no fee arrangement
I came across all kinds of strange things
I have seen cases of people deliberately digging up sections of pavement in order to have an accident and the well known staged car shunts are quite common
The compensation culture has gone too far and the Government is right to be taking action to restrict it
At the end of the day we all pay through higher insurance premiums or higher taxes |

What it mustn't do is encourage a return to negligence in the workplace. Some employers will take advantage of any change of circumstances in which it becomes more difficult for genuine claims to be made against those who clearly are not meeting their obligations.
And, on the roads, we all know about the infamous "reverse shunt" scams that plague insurance companies, but a friend of ours was the genuine victim of an accident in which is suffered the effects of whiplash very badly - but had to spend 2 years fighting the other party's insurance company who treated him as if he were on a scam. In the end, the cost of days lost at work due to having to go for tests, see specialists, go for more tests and assessments, etc., outweighed the eventual (paltry) payout he received.
It's OK for the Tories to prattle on about "the compensation / health & safety scam" culture, but I suspect they haven't quite thought this one through.
Still, it makes good pre-conference headlines in the blue-rise newspapers and it makes it look like they're tackling problems even if they're not! |

And will children go back to playing conkers?....
That Old Chestnut
Put on your suit of armour,
Get your string and firmly hold,
And prepare to join in battle
As did the knights of old.
You may think that we look silly,
Perhaps a little bonkers:
But this is the safe way
To play a game of conkers
I'm told some school have banned it
Because it is too rough,
And our kids must be protected
From that kind of stuff.
Yet it really doesn't matter
'Cos interest is so thin...
With'Gameboys' and 'Playstations'
Why search for a piesce of string?
But is there a hidden agenda?
Is Brussels using it's clout
To ban the famous English conker
In favour of the Brussels Sprout?
