Did anyone else think.... what's, Nick Baines (The Bishop of Croydon) doing on Drivetime? Turns out it was Gary Barlow...

They sound almost identical.

I think it might have been better if they had got the Bishop of Croydon on there - probably a lot more interesting
I have never been a great fan of either Take That or Robbie Williams but perhaps it might be something to do with the fact that Gary Barlow fitted my ex wife's kitchen before he became a megastar and she moaned about it for years
Of course he was a local lad living in Frodsham Cheshire in those days and I suppose its fair to say he has done quite well for himself
I watched an old episode of Heartbeat last week with Gary in it and he fitted the part very well

Gary's actually developed into an excellent songwriter and singer in his own right. I chauffered a bunch of mad women to Take That's "Circus" gig at Wembley Stadium last year and I was most impressed by their professionalism - especially where Gary did his solo bit at the piano.

However, I think Robbie Williams is a dick. I can't understand why the other four are letting him anywhere near their stage!!!

Well, I thought they were great.

At least they can both sing.

I agree, and its the beginning of the end of Take That's resurgence, I'm really surprised that Gary has accepted Williams back so readily, after the scathing things he said about him.

Is it just me or is it not a little surprising that now that Williams career is in decline, he agrees to return? He hasn't produced a good album since his split with Guy Chambers.

Barlow is a far superior songwriter to Williams, and will live to regret it.

Well as far as I'm concerned, there's never been the slightest flicker of enthusiasm for any Boy Band.. they all make me cringe..
Imagine a line up of four Donny Osmond's spewing out sickly songs with permanent cheesy smiles because that's what they all seem like to me.

But, after hearing Richard Madeley gush on and on and on about the new single from Take That this morning, building it up to like something from a new planet, I thought I'd direct an ear towards the radio...

Yep, it's the same old gooey, predictable crap as all the others... what folks see in this type of thing is beyond me. Rolling Eyes

Coincidentally, as my wife was driving last night she was playing the CD that is the second CD in the "Circus" release in which the Take That boys were recorded running through the songs that would later be performed live on stage. This particular warm-up session was recorded at Abbey Road Number One studio along with all the session musicians being used on the tour.

I have to say that not only is the quality of the recording exceptional (as you'd expect from Abbey Road) but their performances are also excellent. Gary Barlow is, in my mind, the best of the four - his voice has matured considerably since the early days - and there's no doubt that they're far from the "boy band" they were in the 1990s. It's no wonder that troubled has-been Robbie Williams is desperate for a bit of their limelight.

I've seen many hundreds of bands both big and small, famous and obscure, over the last 30+ years but I have to say that the "Circus" tour gigs were among the best I've seen. And I never thought in a million years I'd see myself writing that!

There. That should earn me a few brownie points with the missus, and my daughter, and my son's girlfriend......... Smile

I laughed at the suggestion that Gary Barlow and the Bishop of Croydon had similar voices; for some time I've felt he (Barlow) speaks like William Hague (much mocked by Jon Culshaw) and also like Peter Sallis when he voices Wallace in the Wallace & Gromit films!

Intensive Care, his album with Stephen "Tintin" Duffy was fantastic. He should have done more stuff like Trippin' but did Rudebox instead and that was atrocious. The real beginning of the end.

He's lost it now, and definitely needs Take That more than they needs him. However, they were all made an offer that was too big to refuse.

I'm no boy band fan, and hated Take That in their first incarnation, but I have to say I admire Robbie Williams.

He started out as a very young man, fame turned his head and he did a lot of stupid stuff, but he got help and sorted himself out. He then became a very popular singer, which is when I started to take notice of him, and sold out concerts in hours.

He's taken a step back, rather than spend his life in the media circus, and people now call him a has been. How can that be? He still sells plenty of records (when he bothers to make them) and is still extremely popular.

I doubt he's bothering to go back to Take That just to boost his popularity. It's a one off thing and he'll go back on his own after it.

Perhaps the original five members of Take That got on well and liked each other. And perhaps the pressure cooker atmosphere they lived in caused them to get ratty with each other and egos clashed a bit.

Now they're older and a bit more mature and rather more in control of their own destinies than they were first time around. The management now works for them, not the other way round. Perhaps they actually like working together?

Could it be that they're working together because they want to do it and are enjoying themselves?

It's not any of them have to do it for the money - they must all be financially secure.

Just what is all this Robbie Williams & Gary Barlow thing all about ? Rolling Eyes

Why has Robbie Williams rejoined Take That or is it just Gary Barlow he's with ? Which side supposedly wanted the other ?

Robbie Williams appeared to have a perfectly good career and had some good songs so why rejoin an old boy band ?

From last night on Paul O'Gradys Tv show it would appear to be the Robbie Williams show as Gary Barlow seemed to say nothing just grin a bit, so I would say Robbie Williams has taken over Take That.

I seem to remember when Take That reformed a few years ago, Robbie Williams 'poo-pooed' the idea and didn't want to know when he was invited to join in the reunion. Presumably he thought the whole thing would go belly-up. Strange that he's now interested after it proved to be a success without his presence.

As I mentioned above I have no interest in Take That although I do think Robbie Williams is a character for sure and maybe he should have got in to acting? but... didn't he fall out or part company with his song writer a few years back? I'm sure it was said at the time it was a bad move for him as; whoever that was, was responsible for his hits. He's certainly been quiet since..

I saw them perform on Strictly Come Dancing last week and,, what a surprise, found it very bland, it was ok but just ... ok.
I mean, is their single really that good?

As for them getting back together, I can understand that as they get older, they'll change their opinions just like anybody else.. forgive and forget and all that.

They can sing certainly, in fact, I thought Barlow had a better voice after SCD, but it's the material I find boring.

Guy Chambers (his main co-writer) did indeed leave the partnership a few years back (allegedly after being sued by Loudon Wainwright III when Robbie nicked Wainwright's song) and everyone thought he was the real talent in the partnership. But as Chambers post-Robbie career showed, that wasn't actually true.

The new Take That song " The Flood " sounds good. Shame the title had to be the same as Katie Melua hit earlier in the year.

Yes, or the seminal They Might Be Giants album currently celebrating it's 20th Anniversary.
