Given some of the negative comments I've read here and elsewhere, I wasn't expecting much of this ... but I just watched the episode with Stephen Fry and Seasick Steve on the iplayer.

Have to say I really enjoyed it. Why? First of all a complete absence of smut, bad language and innuendo as per Jonathan Ross. Brydon chooses to avoid all the effing and blinding and smutty or caustic jokes, and can hold an intelligent and amusing conversation with his guests, doesn't hog the limelight and allows them to get a word in edgewise. Not only that he actually listens to what they have to say, allowing them time to speak and not constantly interrupting.

The chat and musical interlude with Seasick Steve was also excellent. Haven't seen the previous two episodes with other guests (I think I saw Jimmy Carr mentioned somewhere, who I would avoid at any costs) but all in all, I think it's a decent watch. I've seen a hell of a lot worse.

If anything, at only 30 minutes' duration, it's too short. I thought that the chats with Stephen Fry only really got started when it was time to wrap it up.

That applies to Seasick Steve, too, and it could have done without Brydon's involvement in the first song.

However, I still have a horrible suspicion that this is a stop-gap until the dreaded time when Evans is given his own show to occupy this slot.

I agree Col, it's too short at 30 minutes. This was particularly apparent with the questions bit. Stephen Fry was asked just two, and on the second one Brydon said 'Ok the final question now' making it patently apparent that the show had been hacked down to fit the time.

I too thought that about Seasick Steve, but thought Brydon redeemed himself somewhat for three reasons. One he kept it short. Two he didn't try to 'sing', and three Seasick Steve got to perform at the end of the show and unlike Johnathon Ross when it's over-run we got to see the performance in its entirety and the credits didn't go up until the very end.

I think it's got potential. He's certainly better than quite a few others I can think of and a million miles better than you know who - I shudder just to think about it tbh. They wouldn't would they?

I like Rob Bydon,he always makes me laugh....thought this was the best one yet...and Stephen Fry repeated my favourite Uxbridgism about Piers Morgan...Embarassed Seasick Steve seems genuinely humble and at the same time very pleased about his breakthrough here....he has a lovely smiley face.

I'm not sure yet, I think Rob Brydon is a great comedic actor Marion and Geoff was one of the better sit coms in the last few years (although it probibly a while ago now) so the early part of interaction with the audience is ok. Maybe you are all right it's just hacked too short.
RB is on would I lie to you on the same night which maybe that's why I'm not sure as that is more settled and works well

Watched last night again - Terry Wogan. Thought it was good.

Now I'm not the world's biggest Wogan fan, but he was good last night - very funny interview with Brydon. There was however one 'awkward' moment when B asked Tel 'what do you listen to now in the mornings?' ... see from 09.10 onwards:

- look at Rob's reaction and the look on Sir Tel's face.

No. Well, in all honesty, if you had been doing the job for 28 years would you,, no matter who was doing it?

If Terry had been the sole person on the show with Brydon it might have been interesting, but, as with all chat shows since Parkinson, it had far too many people on it - Sharleen Spiteri (much as I like her) and the embarassing duet, the comedian (also embarassing) and Brydon himself (embarassing patter with audience).
