Of foodstuffs. Cauliflower is definitely consigned to room 101. Ken Bruce was right when he called it 'boiled brain'! Laughing
I'm on the side of those who don't like broad beans. I think it's the only bean I don't like.

I know I'd love the idea of coffee, epsecially an expresso every now and again. Just the smell and taste does nothing for me. Well it does something but that's not a good thing

Me too. The smell of good coffee on the brew and good bread baking are two of my absolute favourites. I can't start the day without a coffee before I can even contemplate doing anything useful!

She's already in my Room 101. What a smug, patronising woman she is. It's interesting that, in "This Week" immediately after Question Time, Charles Kennedy predicted that within a year she'll no longer be Chairman of the Conservatory Party because she's becoming a liability. Let's hope she stays in the job then!

I agree with all your choices AND aubergines! What's the point of them? Horrible colour and no flavour IMO
And I don't know if anybody watches Emmerdale, but Holly is long overdue in room 101.

Soulsis: I agree about Frankie Boyle: the most obnoxious, foulmouthed, ignorant, unfunny person who's ever appeared on TV (apart from Piers Morgan obviously).

The aforementioned Sting: pompous, self important. Make poverty history in just twenty years? Yeah right. Ditto the sanctimonious Annie Lennox.

People who I'd also consign to Room 101 are those who, at supermarket checkouts, pay by credit/debit card for just a £5 bill, thus needlessly holding everyone up. In fact anyone who holds me up unnecessarily at the check out should automatically be consigned to oblivion by a trapdoor.

Also people who support Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd but who don't come from those areas. Plastic football fans who have to support a glamorous club to make up for being losers and sad no hopers. Everyone should support his/her local club!

Which begs the obvious question: who will those Liverpool fans who live in the South East and who've never been to Merseyside support next year when 'their' club gets relegated?

Hi Schiz That's an interesting point which you raise
I've been a Liverpool fan for about 45 years and when I started supporting them I did so quite logically as I worked out at the age of ten that they were geograpically the nearest football league club to the actual place where I was born and hence were my local club
It was a close call as Everton were only 400 yards further away and of course had I been born in the same place in the last few years Wigan Athletic would have been the nearest
Like you I'm a firm believer that fans should support their local club whether large or small successful or unsuccessful and until recently I've always thought I have been fortunate to have such a successful local club to support
As you say this season has seen a big turnaround and if the American idiots continue their obstructive behaviour it's quite likely we'll see a 9 point deduction which will make the possibility of relegation far more likely
I've no idea what supporters in the South East will do and frankly I don't really care
I'm sure its only a temporary blip and I really don't think Liverpool will end up like Leeds Southampton or Nottingham Forest but it is worrying

Hi Ruddles: a bloke I worked with came from Wigan but supported Man City as when he grew up Wigan were not in the League. He was in a quandary a few years ago when Wigan reached the Premiership and were higher than City!

Anyway, you'll be pleased to know that your favourite breakfast presenter comes from Warrington!

I guess that means that all players should come from within a designated radius of the club as well. That would at least put a stop to the ridiculous salaries paid to imported stars of the game.

Perhaps investment should only come from people who live/work within the aforementioned boundary, too. And, while we're at it, maybe the matches should only be covered by local media and sponsorship come from only local businesses?

In other words - where does it all end? I thought we were living in a free society in which I have a right to support whichever football club I choose?

Not that I'm into football, of course! (I don't really give a monkeys).

Schiz yes I know Mr Evans is from Warrington and its dangerously close to home
Embarrassing really as quite a few of my relatives live there
As well as football my other main sport is Rugby League so I derive great satisfaction from the fact that St Helens have thrashed Warrington THREE times this season both home and away
I suppose I shouldn't really get so excited about it but that man Evans just annoys me so much
In fact I get so angry I could throw the mouse down!!!

Colin of course I accept that everyone is entitled to support whatever team they choose but I still don't understand why anyone would want to support a team hundreds or even thousands of miles from where they live
As these days we all move around a lot more than a century ago I think we all develop preferences beyond our main team and for example I still have a soft spot for Cardiff City Leicester City and Norwich City and always look out for their results but my original affiliation to Liverpool remains the most important to me
I think true fans can appreciate quality play whichever team it comes from and certainly I have always been treated with the utmost respect by fans of other clubs

Tank tops. They should have gone into Room 101 years ago. The reason I've just thought of them is that I saw a bloke wearing a tank top in the pub earlier. And he looked like he was still at school! Heavens no............

Oh, and that crappy yellow fizzy lemonade cats-p stuff called "Lager" that's brewed in Northampton. Even the UK San Miguel is brewed by Carlsberg in Northampton. I've seen what's in the River Nene and you don't want to drink it!!! Smile

Oh Colin I'd definitely have Mr Evans down as a champagne man
Talking about Lager reminds me of the mid 1970s when I used to live in Leicester and Ruddles still had their own tied houses
At that time obviously they were revered for their fantastic real ales but interestingly they did also used to produce a brew called Langdorf Lager presumably the name being a German sounding corruption of the town of Oakham where the brewery was based
That stuff was unique in that it was brewed in the same way as the ale so it had no gas in it at all and was certainly a very different taste to normal lager
Needless to say the brand didn't last too long!
Mind you compared to most lager today it was probably like nectar from the Gods!
Happy days

I was working in Hannover at the Deusche Messe exhibition centre a few years back and met up with some mates who were based nearby in the British Rhine Army. They took me to a bar on the outskirts of the city just down the road from my hotel and we drank proper lagerbier in those huge glasses.

I went to slide of my bar stool to go to the loo and fell on the floor. My legs just wouldn't work!

That's what I call lager............! Shocked

Sorry Colin I meant to say Langdorf was a corruption of the word Langham which was the area of Oakham where the brewery was based
It must be getting past my bedtime and before you ask no I have not been down the pub tonight
Mind you I have demolished about four bottles of Woods bitter brewed in South Shropshire whilst watching the darts on Sky!
It was rather good

Talking of (a) beer and (b) darts my wife and I were guests of Winmau at the World Darts Masters several years ago at Lakeside (horrible place) and I was the only one in our party drinking proper beer. I was on the Ruddles County when all the other wimps were drinking lager.

It was a good night. I think.... Smile

I know quite a few Northamptonians who pronounce it "Nenn" - including a 90-year-old woman born & bred. There's obviously something in it!

It's the same issue as "Lanson" (Launceston) down in my native neck of the woods.

Mind you, I was born in Devonport (pronounced "Demport"). Tis certainly complicated moi ansum.

Colin that must have been a wonderful night and I'm glad to hear that you were drinking the approved falling down liquid
I don't know whether you saw the final but funnily enough my 17 year old son ended up playing darts against Dave 'Chizzy' Chiznall at a charity do in Merseyside about 3 weeks after Dave had been in the world final
My son didn't win but he took a few legs off Dave and the whole evening has given him the confidence to try to make a career out of darts if he can make the big time
He's done quite well in several of the smaller regional tournaments soI'm hoping he can perhaps turn professional at some stage
I think he really needs to join the PDC once he is good enough

On my night in question I was introduced to Bobby George. I'd had a few, and he'd had a few. I asked him if he was enjoying the darts and also what he did for a living.

I couldn't understand what he was laughing about! Smile

Oh come on Colin that's a perfectly reasonable question to ask
After all I've seen quite a lot of Bobby on TV these days inviting the punters to part with their much loved jewellery for quick cash so I think darts is almost becoming a sideline for him
I suppose since we now see so little darts coverage on the BBC he's got to moonlight a bit to make ends meet!

Here's on for Room 101:

Cigarette Smokers who throw their fag-ends down onto the ground around where they're either sitting (outside pubs, restaurants, coffee bars, etc) or standing (outside pubs, workplaces, etc). It really does annoy me!

Re:Sting - Richard Thompson has a song called Here Comes Geordie, where he slags Sting off for trying to save the world and yet travelling in an un-eco-friendly car!

Family Guy also mocked Sting for his indistinct vocals, making out they could only hear three words of each line!
Laughing
Sting's botoxed wife also appeared in an episode of Midsomer Murders. This also links to a pet hate of mine, so-called celebrities who are roped in to do things they haven't done the necessary training for. Colleen Nolan doing the agony column in the Mirror while the previous occupant, Dr. Miriam Stoppard, got demoted to answering health questions is one example!
