Now I've been a bit reluctant to get me funk and soul threads going on here as we did on the old radio boards. Our funk thread on there was a work of art (even if I say so meself) and it's one of the things I miss.

But I'm thinking I've got the vibes right on this board and there may well be a few Stevie Ray Vaughan fans kicking about.

So called guitar gods are something we've all grown up with, and to my mind there are very few who deserve the accolade. But this bloke surely has to be one of them.

I'm sure I've heard Bob Harris & Paul Jones play Stevie Ray Vaughan on their shows. Yes I like him. If you like Stevie Ray Vaughan, you might also like Joe Bonnamassa.

Yes, I agree. Joe Bonnamassa has featured a lot on Planet Rock lately - and has even presented his own show!

Sure beats R2 most of the time!!!

Yeah I do like Joe Bonnamassa in a copycat, carrying on the tradition kind of way and that's no insult. In fact, one of the best live sessions I ever heard on Radio 2 was Joe on Jonesy show.

But with respect, Stevie was there a a couple of decades before at least and blowing most before or after guitarists out of the water.

Claption writes about how he first heard him on the radio 'this guy started playing and I had to stop the car. He began and I never knew how or where he was going to end up, but he went there and back again.'

As a result of that, Stevie Ray Vaughan toured with Clapton, I seem to recall. He played onstage with EC somewhere once but I can't remember where.

Edit: Just clipped this from Wikipedia:

Quote:
On August 26, 1990, a sold out concert of 30,000 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin, featured an encore jam with Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan and Robert Cray. On August 27, shortly before 1 a.m., a helicopter carrying Vaughan en route to Chicago crashed within seconds after takeoff. There were no survivors.

I saw Clapton's band play at the RAH earlier that year (Feb). I have an audio recording of the Blues Night featuring the above line-up but without the Vaughan Brothers.
