John would have been 70 today.... Crying or Very sad

What a legacy he left....

A celebration of John Lennon, who would have been 70 on the 9th of October, with very special guests Cynthia Lennon and Colin Hall, custodian of John's childhood home 'Mendips'. Colin has compiled a list of Lennon favourite songs from the visitor's book at the property, where contributors include Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne. Bob also welcomes Terry Emm in session.

Should be a great show Becky but pity about the timing
I would have thought this kind of anniversary falling at a weekend should have justified some daytime coverage but that's Radio 2 for you
I think I heard that Mark Goodier was doing something on Smooth to mark the occasion but I'm not sure when although I think it is during daytime schedule

It's the sort of programme that maybe people wouldn't want to listen to during a Saturday afternoon though, eh?

I agree, though, a midnight slot is, well, almost disrespectful to Bob, and to all the production staff and all the interiewers/interviewees, and to John Lennon's memory.

6music always appears to have a few good programmes dotted around but I always fail to find anything good to listen to, normally it's just some awful DJs Rolling Eyes

Should be a great radio station with new music and the archives but I think it fails to deliver Confused

I will listen to this on the I-player, but it is disgusting how it's been stuck out at an awful time.

Maybe they thought the Strictly Come Dancing mob might be offended.

The problem with listening to programmes like these is that I am in tears a lot of the time....did enjoy it though

Becky, I meant that audiences accustomed to safe stuff like SCD, Monkey Boy O'Leary and The Favoured One's outpourings ('Harry Potter & The Half-Cut Prince'?) might be offended.

Indeed, I got a disclaimer on the I-player asking if I was over 16 before I could play it!

They played Working Class Hero and Bob offered a disclaimer along the lines of 'turn the radio down for five minutes' beforehand.

There's more offensive things out there - Robbie Williams singing 'Let Me Entertain You' on Strictly Crap Voting for one!

A shame there wasn't room for Damian Wilson's versiion of 'Grow Old With Me' - the Glen Campbell version got lots of airtime. Yes, I am biased.

This is the Lennon track that does me in every time I hear it. Talk about heart wrenching, and that vocal is something else. From that opening line
'Mother .. you had me but I never had you ..'. it gets you right in the solar plexus - and then in the middle when he starts to really let rip.

Seeing 'Nowhere Boy' at the pictures gave me further insight into just how torn between his mother and Aunt Mimi the young Lennon must have been.

I hadn't known that Julia had had another child (besides Julia Baird) that was given up for adoption because of mental health problems.

Julia Baird's autobiography is well worth the read. My wife doesn't normally read autobiographies but I persuaded her to read it after I had and she found it to be a fascinating read.

It's even better (in my opinion) than Cynthia Lennon's - and that was pretty good.
