I liked his jibe about all the expensive fittings coming from Jonathon Ross's changing room... it looks like Brucie got the last laugh after all.

Yes, I liked that one!

I think it could be an interesting competition - Matt Baker was definitely a surprise, as was Pamela Stephenson.

Paul Daniels might be an early leaver - but you never know with the British public!!

Matt Baker looked really good, didn't he?
I don't think Paul Daniels is all that popular, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was voted off first.
I think everybody wants to see how Ann Widdecombe progresses, they'll keep her dancing!!

I think that way too Fly.. Obviously I don't know the fellow and, I might be totally wrong, but many years ago; possibly during his TV series, I decided he came across as a bit of a big head and quick to put people down.
I also feel that perhaps he blotted his copybook in some way because he kind of disappeared from the scene all of a sudden?
In fact, thinking about it, didn't he get a little upset about some of the "new" Magicians on the TV at the time?

I think he had a public "brush" with Penn & Teller and he came off worst.. but I can't be sure.
Tommy Cooper was incredible indeed.. I watched the TV programme about him the other night even though I've seen it before. Just such a funny man.
I've never seen it but can you imagine him and Eric Morecambe doing a sketch? Two giants of the comedy stage!

Indeed you don't know! Could we now have a competition within the competition? That is to be the next 'John Sargent figure'. I still wonder if Ann Widdecombe wasn't 'planted' there to be this series' JS figure, but perhaps we are now witnessing a contest in this field!!

Many years ago I was publicity officer for a seaside town where, as you did, we used to have a beauty competition every year. The winner went through to the Miss England competition.

This particular year we had an absolutely lovely girl and part of my job was to accompany her to the competition which was being held in Great Yarmouth. The whole thing was a revelation Shocked for all kinds of reasons I won't go into, but one of the judges was Paul Daniels. Our girl didn't stand a chance - she was far too genuine and nice lol.

At the reception at the hotel afterwards we met him and let's just say the impressions were not favourable. At one point at the top of his voice he said 'I was quite surprised, there wasn't one slag in it'.

From what I've heard he's mellowed a bit in his old age, which can only be a good thing.

What a charmer!

There is the main show of celebrities doing their best in their quest to better their dancing skills then there is the Ann Widdicombe show ...and entertaining as it is, to me, it's unfair that someone else will get the chop instead of her because some viewers will no doubt vote to keep her in for the entertainment value alone....perhaps there should be a version for very unlikely candidates..the BBC are not usually slow to milk a product...Wink

My favourite last night was Kara....with Pamela showing her waltz last week was no fluke...the woman's got rhythm!

I think Craig has got it in for Gavin, who is a curious mixture of shyness and arrogance...

Didn't like Tess's dress at all...

A bit like "Crufts" and "Scuffs" Laughing

You'd think after the John Sergeant affair, the choice of contestant would have been more carefully thought through.. I can see this going the same way.

Even I've noticed how awful some of Tess Daly's dresses are! I said to Mrs SFF last night, she doesn't stand very well and that dress just accentuates it.. Confused

I get the feeling the American girl from Destiny's Child is silently fuming as she expected to be much more popular with the Judges?

I agree,Santa.....she seems to have modified her behaviour a little after the opening show where she said she was one of the favourites....and I don't think Brendan helps with her popularity when he complains about the marks the judges give her.

The fact that Ann Widdecombe is included in the line-up, and that of John Seargeant last year, is due to a simple fact that it all acts as a carrot on a stick for the tabloid press. The BBC's Press Office is at work again just like they are with Evans.

Let's be honest, simple good-quality performances are less likely to get coverage in the tabloid and celebrity gossip magazines than they are with the latest exploits of the wildcards like Widdecombe and Sergeant. Forget about the dancing - it's all about PR and the manipulation of the press for the sake of increased coverage.

It's the same with the X-Factory over on ITV - Cheryl Cole dumps decent singers in preference to a couple of unstable weirdos and the press goes mad with front-page coverage.

Hey presto. PR job done!

Anyhow, let's be honest, most audiences haven't got a clue when it comes to voting on dancing or singing quality so what does it matter? Take their money and run, that's what I say!

She's awful isn't she? Not a good mover at all, very wobbly and unbalanced, and because she's so thin she looks like a puff of wind would blow her over.

Pamela is my favourite. It's funny but in the very first group dance they did I spotted her and thought 'she can move' but I didn't realise how well. She's 61 and has obviously had a bit of botox but looks a lot more natural than Felicity who is a couple of years older. I genuinely think a bit of weight at that age makes women look younger, and although Pam is obviously carrying a few extra pounds it doesn't slow her down or restrict her movement in any way. On ITT on Friday they were showing the rehearsal footage of her and James and Craig RH said 'blimey she moves like a 21 year old' and she does. So flexible and quick, great musicality and just a great all-round dancer.

I would absolutely love to see an older woman go on to win this, and for the first time I think there is someone with the potential to do that.

Paul's a cert to go I would think and I don't think Peter Shilton will last long either - very dull to watch.

Am I the only one who thought Patsy Kensit had had magic mushrooms for tea? She was the complete opposite to the woman she was last week.

I was prepared to find fault with Pamela, as I've never liked her, don't know why Rolling Eyes But I have to admit, she's a good mover.

Yep! Paul has to go, and Ann and Peter Shilton.

We would make good judges, wouldn't we? No hanging about! You leave! and you! and you!

I don't think the show is a farce at all.. Obviously, you know what you're talking about regarding the methods of achieving press coverage, good and bad, but I do think it's a real challenge for most of the participants and, I also believe it really can change and enhance their lives - to be able to dance to a good standard.
I can pick up on a rhythm being a drummer in the past but dance? no way.. absolutely no way! Laughing and I admire those who seem to improve every week.

I have a feeling that Shilton will go before Daniels who I think, actually improved this week?

Fly, I didn't think I was that keen on Pamela either, but I've really warmed to her. She wrote a very funny Strictly column in The Guardian and she's clearly able to send herself up and takes the mick out of all the psychology mumbo jumbo. Mind you being married to Connolly I suppose being able to not take yourself too seriously is a prerequisite. Didn't realise they'd been married 31 years and had three daughters.

I just like her feistiness and the willingness to really go for it. It sends out a message I think to a lot of women who think they're past it (like meself sometimes Sad ) that age is no barrier really if you've got the right attitude. Hard to believe she's only 2 years younger than Ann Widdecombe.

I think with Patsy she realised that if she let the nerves get in the way she was finished, and maybe watching Pamela and a few of the others made her think 'what the hell?' and she just went for it. I remember her on Who Do You Think You Are and she came across as a very vulnerable person. Despite the rock 'n roll lifestyle and all the rest of it, it just goes to show that a lot of these people are riddled with insecurities.

I agree with Santa Fe it can't be easy getting up there. I couldn't do it in a million years, so good luck to all of them.

Yes,Fly, I did think Patsy was like a different person this week perhaps as Soulsis has said she thought she would just go for it this week....Peter is lovely but is the one you feel the most uncomfortable for ....what about when Anton picked Ann up..... Shocked ... Very Happy

With Peter, if you listen to interviews, he seems to think he's better than he is. Not in an arrogant way but he seems to have a slightly warped idea of his dancing capabilities. There was another bloke like that in a previous series, can't remember his name.

Sadly I can't see Peter improving.

Also ... I am starting to fancy Matt Baker Shocked Thought he was dead sexy last night.

Hands off Matt Baker! I saw him first!!

I must accept Patsy decided to let herself go last night.
It just seemed so strange after watching her for months in Emmerdale, when her expression never changed, she was so wooden.
Well, good luck to her and as SS says: It must take a lot of courage to get up there and have a go. Couldn't see myself doing it,..... well, maybe if I were a few decades younger Wink

Did anybody notice that annoying trail (or should that be "trial"?) for Gob Almighty just before the results show tonight?

And now I see Robbie Williams is desperately trying to regain some cred by appearing on the show.

No but Goldie wasn't the worst by far. If it had been a dance off Peter would have been a goner.

Not sure I like this new format. What a rigmarole. Think I'll be giving the Sunday show a miss.

I don't normally watch this show because it drives me nuts seeing the results of voting by really stupid, thick viewers who wouldn't know good dancing from what comes out of the backend of a cow, but I have secret desire to see Ann Widdecombe winning this series. Just for a laugh and to indicate what a farce it all is.

Except, of course, that it's no longer a secret.

And I believe she has been planted in there just to be the next John Sargeant figure. John, himself may have been placed there in that series, if he was, then, at least it wasn't obvious at first, but it soon became obvious that the great British public were keeping him in just to wind up the judges!

I'm beginning to feel the real weak link on Saturday is Bruce, I've grown up with him and always liked him but he's not very good any more is he?
Tess looks like she could do with a burger imo.

and as for the Sunday night show, it would have filled the hour better if there was a dance of rather than stop start with results. Robbie two weeks running ? Rolling Eyes
