A compilation of performances highlighting the growth of the singer-songwriter genre in the 1970s. Featuring songs by Bobbie Gentry, Kris Kristofferson, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Janice Ian, Gordon Lightfoot, John Martyn, Randy Newman, Joni Mitchell, Don McLean, Ralph McTell, Don Williams, Paul Brady and Loudon Wainwright III.

I used to love these really cool "In Concert" programmes that went out on BBC2 in the early/mid 70s. You had these cardboard-box studio sets and the audience was made up of staff from TV centre all acting really cool and far-out.

I have a James Taylor one saved somewhere, and also a Jini Mitchell one, both of which were really good. How times change eh?

Ralph McTell - there's another one. He did so much more than "Streets of London" for which he's known. "The River Man" is a beautiful song that was inspired by Herman Hesse's book "Siddhartha". I remember he played that at a club in Plymouth when I was a student and the audience was spellbound by it.

Loudon Wainwright III - I remember John Peel championing him in the mid-70s. "Dirty old skunk in the middle of the road..." is one of his more memorable songs! Smile

I have a James Taylor recording tucked away somewhere too,Colin....my favourite from it is Fire and Rain.

There was one on there I had never heard of before Helen...Steve Goodman, who I looked up ..he sadly died at the age of 36 from leukemia.

I'd not seen him before either Becky, even though City Of New Orleans is a favourite of mine, thanks to JW playing Arlo Guthrie's version of it in his Radio 1 days. Very sad story as were those of a few of the others.

Not true Colin...the tickets were sent to Youth clubs and other youth orginisations...i went to a lot of these concerts with my youth club

My best memories are the Eagles..Crosby and Nash..Neil Young and Ralph McTell
