The problem with the current crop of jingles. There are so many of the old Groove era ones being played alongside the Wise buddah, The lady called Carman Squire who ID some jingles for some of the broadcasters and Steve Wrights AJ productions ones. There is so many different ones aired on the station they don't seem to have a set package. |

Jingles are so "sixties" anyhow. They sounded great on BigL and Caroline simply because they were a new concept here in the UK but now it's all very dated. And the Radio 2 jingles have always been pretty lame, imo. |

Radio 2 jingles are very well made better than some of the commercial radio ones and fit into the shows very well. |

Better than commercial ones? In what way? On those commercial stations I do listen to (and there aren't many of them) the jingles all the sound much the same as Radio 2's (eg: they're all bland and boring). |

Why can't they get groups to do some every now and then, just to add a bit of variety.
I always remember Madness doing a jingle for Terry Wogan. |

I think some of the artists who appear on Dermot's show do record jingles for him. I seem to recall something by the Ting Tings for instance.
Not that I listen to him. Well, not very much. Well, it's more like a background kind of thing. And I need to get a life..... _________________ Minx

I wouldn't bother, terrible show which is a pity as it should be a good one with 'live' music etc |

Artists themselves (as opposed to jingle firms) have made jingles for Bob Harris' weekend show. Marrillion & The Storys to name the two currently used. There have been others in the past. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I'm sure they're OK. It's very much a niche market now although there are several sites that sell Pirate Radio memorabilia, especially CD packages.
Another popular vendor is http://www.offshoreechos.com
I've bought stuff from them over the years.
I have lots of offshore radio material, but most of it is on tape and vinyl disc which still needs digitising. I keep putting off what is a massive job! |

I love the jingles on Talksport which often make me laugh.
A lot of them take a famous song and change the words to take the mickey out of the presenters. |

I'll wait until the next time I'm listening to R2 (which won't be until I hear SOTS on iPlayer, probably Monday during the Breakfast "show"). I'm sure they'll leap out and grab my attention due to the brilliance of their conceptualisation, Mark! |

Lord Elpus, I was going to say Marillion did a jingle for the Bob Harris show!
I also like Farrah's 'He's coming from the West End...Bob Harris on the weekend' jingle. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Jeremy Vine uses some slightly different jingles
I quite like the one done by Rolf Harris
Think he must have had that Churchill dog helping him move house at the time of recording _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

The News jingle has been updated. Take a listen. The Traffic jingle has an ending like the old one. |

I haven't dissected it Mark but the start is too 'in your face' for my liking.

To me the new jingles sound like inferior versions of the originals. Were they created by the same people who used to make those TOTP albums, that I used to buy from Woolies back in the 70's? (I only bought them for the pictures on the front!)

Like I said above, same old naff content in new packaging.
All the Radio 2 jingles are naff and boring - but maybe the concept of radio jingles itself is boring in the year 2010. |

Groove addicts, now called Groove Worx makes the jingles for the station.
It's interesting Chris and Ken were talking about them today. It shows they do read some of the message boards, and trying to interact with us talking about them. |

Of course, my station of choice - KYA San Francisco, plays jingles sounding exactly the same as the old Radio 1 jingles! and very nice they are too.
( Excellent "Breakfast with the Beatles" show yesterday from KYA celebrating John's birthday throughout the show including much material I hadn't heard before... of course, I'd had missed out of all Radio 2's coverage of the big event... wouldn't I? ) _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Which in turn were copies of the original PAMS jingle package made in Dallas for BigL Radio London (and even those were based on standardised packages which were used by radio stations across the USA in the 60s). I don't there have ever been better radio station jingles than those from PAMS. |
