There's an interesting documentary on at 10.35pm, BBC1, tonight. It features the close relationship between the Olympic diver Tom Daley and his Dad, Rob.

Rob is my uncle Ray Daley's brother (Ray married my Dad's sister) and lives in my home town of Plymouth. Rob has battled with a brain tumour for 4 years now and despite all the worries of this on top of a gruelling training schedule, young Tom has fought his way to become one of our finest divers, having just won gold in the men's 10m synchro platform with Max brick at the Commonwealth Games yesterday. As all of our family knows, he has worked incredibly hard to achieve this success - with much of the credit going to his dad for his support at all costs (and it really has cost a lot).

It was thought that the tumour was in remission, but recently it has re-appeared, and that resulted in Rob's being unable to travel to Delhi to see his son perform in the games.

Hopefully it will make interesting viewing.

Thanks Col.

I will definitely be watching.

I was thinking about Tom Daley yesterday - was watching the girls competing (have the Games on in the background while I'm working) and my thoughts turned to him and what a remarkable thing he had achieved at such an incredibly young age and how parental support must have been a huge factor in that.

A friend of my 14 year old daughter is a swimmer with huge potential. Her mum is a single parent and I know how much she has put into supporting her daughter including getting up at 5am every morning for years and years to drive her to a training pool several miles away, so she can practise before school, as well as working all the hours God sends at various jobs.

So sorry to hear about Rob's illness. Sad
