It wasn't pointless during the years that Sarah Kennedy presented between 6.00 and 7.30 Mark. Perhaps you'd like to explain why it is now?

Or has someone on Digital Spy prompted you?

The schedules seem a little similar to Radio 1 apart from a few shows. I just wonder who will take over the show full-time if Lynn Parsons dosn't after her stint at Smooth Radio. I don't know why Janice & Alex couldn't have extended there shows.

You still haven't explained why you asked the question in the first place Mark. Sarah did 90 minutes for years, no questions asked as to what the point of it was. Now she's gone you do.

90 minutes is 90 minutes whatever time of day it happens to be.

90 minutes- pointless? Try holding your breath for 90 minutes, Mark, no cheating- no breathing through your ears. Smile

My original thought, why I originally asked the question, was that 06:00 - 07:30 was when people might be listening, and she was followed by Terry, but now it's 05:00 - 06:30 surely it's less inviting ? Rolling Eyes

I'll leave Mark to answer why he raised it Rolling Eyes

Yes I think Mark is questioning the value of a 90min show at such early time, and I question it too.

It's earlier than Sarah's old slot.

For a twilight presenter you want a good long show because things are at a slower pace.

Not sure that I agree Nod but I'd say why did they give the Ginger one the extra half hour? It would have been better to leave things as they were IMHO.

Unless of course it was to boost his ego?

According to Aled's website he's covering the whole of October (doesn't say anything about afterwards)... as well as Breakfast from 27 Dec to 03 Jan 2011:

I think pointless was a little harsh. The 90minutes Sarah had was better structured. If your going to have an early show then why not run it from 4am to 6.30am like Radio 1. There is no paper review. The traffic has been scrapped now at 6.30am. Traffic problems don't just start at 6.50am. Or why not move Janice and Alex shows around.

Why do they have to do what Radio 1 does Mark?

I don't think it matters who starts when as long as they broadcast in a manner appropriate to the time of day. If I were getting up at 5 rather than 6 I don't think I'd want to have a different sort of radio show to listen to.

Eh? Precisely what planet are you living on, Mark? Have you seen the M1 Southbound between Junctions 12 and 1 at any time after 6.00am weekdays? It's even busy now on Saturdays!

The reason that traffic reports are being cut back is simple: budgets.

After all, they have to pay Evans' inflated salary somehow.

Yes Colin and I guess that's why Mark said "Traffic problems don't just start at 6.50am".

One point I like to make is I'ant criticising Aled Jones, as I find him a good broadcaster and very funny. He might not be taking over the slot full time.

I've googled "Aled Jones" and "funny" and got 37,000 results; unfortunately none of them say that he's funny.

Not even having Tim Vine on his show a fortnight ago registered as funny.

Aled's hilarious one-liners on Friday Night Is Music Nights would make an excellent podcast compilation, and must include the ladies' tittering after each Very Happy

And I don't mean tittering in a Russell Brand sense Shocked

I suppose Aled's playlist won't include 'On The Road Again' or 'I Like Truckin'' then!

I think a lot of Radio 2 output would be better at just 90 minutes. It would save them having to think up mindless feature spots just to fill the time.

Poor old Mike Harding has to put up with just 1 hour a week, while others get 15 hours (and a TV show). Me-thinks the balance is all wrong!

I like the article from the sun he read out. Then he said.. yeah right " We are sitting in the studio in a bowl of beans, waiting for bacon and eggs Laughing Laughing

What Simon Cowell Does Before The Show

Simon Cowell relaxes in a Jacuzzi, watching cartoons eating ice cream before the shows on Saturday and Sunday.

It's put right now. Reading that would put you off your breakfast, actually reading some of the rubbish in the papers does.

No. Only in the rubbish papers - like the one to which you've linked!

Nice to see on Digital Spy some folk suggesting Richard Allinson be given the Early Morning breakfast show.

I wonder if he is the running for this.

The most logical thing surely is for Janice Long to get her hour back and have the Dark Lord on the air until 630. This would actually save the BBC some money. The down side of course would be the lack of a female presenter having a daytime show but what the heck?

I'm afraid I've got to the point where a great deal of the Radio 2 output feels alien to me. So I guess I'm not really that bothered what Shennan and Co do.

Radio 2 do still want to break up early mornings and keep Early Breakfast. It does depend who wants to host the 90 minute show. My money is still on for Lynn Parsons from January.
