It’s a good thing my earlier post wasn’t an exam question!

Question

“ In your own words, explain Fleming’s Left Hand Rule?”

Answer

“ I don’t know Fleming- never listen to him, hate his show, does he have a left hand? However, I do know that the cretaceous period is a geologic period and system from circa 145.5 ± 4 to 65.5 ± 0.3 million years (Ma) ago. In the geologic timescale, the Cretaceous follows on the Jurassic Period.

Well done, full marks.

Should know better by now, Rach.

You can't pose a question in the top half of this board without (knowing in advance that) the answers will be a rant about... well, anyone and everyone, and not listening.

For what it's worth I thought that the first half hour seemed oddly detached from the rest, as if they were treading water before the start of the race. First record was The Carpenters, but not We've Only Just Begun, some airy fairy discussion about the papers, SCD and the new jingles, then at seven the show proper started with the News, Beatles tracks (Hey Bulldog is one of my favourites; Blackbird just nice and simple, the two together a bit iffy) and all the regular stuff.

So if the timing was supposed to compete with Chris Moyles or Smooth Breakfast (which starts at 6.00) I have to say the content didn't.
Goodness knows what Aled Jones thinks (privately, of course). Chris gave him an aural pat on the head for his "little show" - I'm sure he appreciated it.

I know, Ron but I’m like a puppy, come out wagging my tail hopefully at everyone, only to be booted back down, I’ll just stay here under the stairs chewing on this old shoe for while.

Yeah it was a bit just tacked on the front of the normal show, Ron. I thought that they would bring the show forward then squeeze new stuff in here and there but it wasn’t like that- maybe it’ll change over the coming weeks. Jonny Saunders before seven o’clock isn’t a good move: that needs to change pretty quickly. The rest was ok – ish. I’d rather it was just Chris until ten to eight. He’s so good on his own- more of that would be better.

All seems strangely quiet from the pro-Evans clan... where did they all go from the R2 boards? Confused

Santa there are still a few on here but as a relative newcomer I have to say the atmosphere here is a very great deal better
My wounds inflicted by the Evans heads on the other board have just about healed by now
But I'm still looking out for the odd sniper!
No names mentioned!

It does seem straight in your face out from the news, but I guess this is how Sarah and Wogan worked for years. Talking on Monday Chris saying it's his new jingle at 6.30am, it actually isn't - it's been around for years made by Wise Buddah, he just never used it.

Can't say I blame him. It's awful - like most of the other R2 jingles and promo templates.

It's just occurred to me that I hardly listen to "Radio Boring" these days but even I think these awful jingles are being played too often! It must be "Radio Hell" for the die-hard regular listeners.

Laughing Of course... but at least you are constructively critical of him though Rach.. I was thinking of the "he can do no wrong" fans.. Laughing

and why on the TV Radio 2 trailer... Moron-ic or something... Razz does Mr Evans appear twice?? once at the beginning and again at the end! where's Wrighty too?

but rather ominously, why does Mr Evans decide to play the Kink's " All Day and All of the Night".. is this a warning of things to come? 24 hour Evans?? Shocked

Alan Dedicote was on the "great one's " show this morning, doing the bit Johnny Saunders does!! To explain Shocked I am not a closet fan but leave the DAB Radio on for our dog (he does'nt care what he has on as long as it's noise), he actually had a good rapport going with Selina, then the host took over and monopolised as usual. Anyone know why the change? NB switched off Radio almost immediately, as have the day off and DAB is way too perfect in tone quality to endure the squealing. Can't get anything but BBC channels where I live. Which reminds me, its still off now!

If you have Windows 7 on your PC, you can add the Quick Radio gadget to your desktop and pick your favourite 6 channels from a long list. It includes commercial stations, so you could be listening to Chill, instead of swearing at Jeremy Vine (sorry Helen, he drives me to it)). Right click on your desktop and you'll see Gadgets in the options and it's fairly straightforward from there.

Alternatively, I recommend Last.fm where you can design your own station, without a DJ.

My radio alarm only gets FM and MW, so it's tuned to Classic FM for 6:25. If Evans woke me at that time in the morning I might become a weapon of mass destruction.

I know Deadly is head of news, you can't expect his tones not to be used at some point during the morning now he's be made rudunant after 6am cause of Moria and Selina. I remember when he used to be on with Johnnie Walker on Breakfast.

Jonny is a big girl's blouse! Man flu! Two days of an early start and he's wrecked already... they just don't make em like they used to. Of course they could be taking my advice and leaving Jonny plugged into his charger until ten to eight. Chris did the sport at ten to seven, then that clown Deadly did it at ten to eight and nine.

I bet Dedicoate was in his element Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes There is nothing that bloke wouldn't do to get his voice plastered all over radio and tv, he's very similar to Evans in that respect!!

He reminds me of a Circus MC- his only talent is being able to bellow who’s on next with a load more waffle than is actually required.

“Please give a big hand for, the delirious, the delectable, the delightful, the unredoubtable, the unredeemable, the inimitable, the positively devastatingly delicious and devilishly deleterious Deadly .. oh hang on that’s me!!… and now it’s some girls on horses”.

well the snippet I heard was of him bantering with Selina at about 8.30 ish and it actually sounded quite good, the head to head thing,, not the travel or the sport Confused and then the loud excited one joined in and the off button saved me Shocked Wouldn't mind betting that Dedley gets a job based on his outing today......... bye bye Johnny

Exactly Angela
Why couldn't we have the perfect half way house between the boring Wogan and the manic idiotic Evans?
If Johnnie Walker was not up for it on health grounds Simon Mayo would have been the next best choice

And another thing........ Why does Evans say things in triplicate? On the unfortunate occasion of my having to endure him for 15 minutes on Monday morning he said things like "Hello, Hello, Hello" and "We're gonna have Fun, Fun, Fun". I'm sure I heard him say "I'm being Boring, Boring, Boring" as well (though perhaps I'd already been rendered brain-dead by that time!).

Does he repeat words and phrases because he now has more time to fill and is short of ideas?

No no no! That's not the reason, Colin. I'm on a dongle in the middle of nowhere so I won't give you full technical explanation but in short it's vocal orgasmic broadcasting Oh yes, yes- YES! it is! Smile

I'm intrigued to know what he's doing to induce this "vocal orgasm".

On the other hand, maybe I'm not.............. Wink

Just remember he has a small person at home..........you have to continually repeat yourself to them. So I think he thinks we are all small people Rolling Eyes

Equally, as I know from very very very recent experience, cos I’m here on holiday with my 88yo mum in law, I know that you have to say things many many many times to older people too: so he’s catering for a wide spectrum- just like he should be.

Colin, you should know, that broadcasting is very very very exciting! Oh yes!
