They read out one today about a Google driverless car or somethig and said Google had announced it today BUT I am sure I read about it on teletext or it was in the news a couple of days ago. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, I think the Google cars were announced end of last week but seeing as the Factoids are all recorded in advance it sometimes takes a little while before reaching the air.

If you think the Chris Evans paper review is bad, at least they're not reading the previous days papers like they did in Steve Wright's last stint on the Radio 1 breakfast show!

and why not, after all the definition of 'factoid' is:

A factoid is a questionable or spurious—unverified, incorrect, or fabricated—statement presented as a fact.

Just how many years has this been a feature on his show? It seems to be going on forever.

I read an entertaining magazine called Fortean Times, which has a relaxed/sceptical view of pararomal events, UFO's, strange sightings of black panthers on Dartmoor, et c. Most entertaining and it manages to take a viewpoint somewhere midway between completely sceptical and completely credulous - iId reccomend it to anyone!

Anyway, it republishes odd and weird little snippets that first made it onto local and national newspapers or specialised scientific magazines, the sort of things newspaper editors bung in when they have a few lines to fill and which are generally weird, or unproven, or unsupported, or just odd.

In short, perfect SW factoids.

And SW really needs to get hold of more recent copies of FT to get his factoids from (either that, or he's working from a collected edition covering several years) as I'm pretty sure some of the ones he used the last time I listened were culled from FT sometime in the very early 1990's... maybe people collect very old magazines for his researchers to plunder?

More likely, it's because Steve's stuck in the past!
