Chile Miners are gradually being freed through a rescue shaft. Fantastic feet of engineering

Great piece of news, and very moving. Well doen the engineers involved.
Great news fo rthe families.
Very Happy
Although not happy with what I heard last night that the start of the evacuation was delayed to coincide with the news on the Chile Presidents Tv channel, my hearing's not what it used to be so I hope I misheard that

Yes, he deserved a smack in the chops for that one.

As a write preparations to bring number 16 up are underway. Great human interest story this, I'm at work and have it on live feed on the PC.

Who needs all these miners, rescuers and engineers?

What we really want is more consultant psychiatrists, psychiatric consultants, psychiatrists, consultants, psychologists and other overpaid, over educated halfwits who are infesting the media at the moment with their statements of the bleedin' obvious: 'it will take time to acclimatise, they will need counselling, they will suffer post traumatic stress syndrome disorder etc etc..'

The miners and those helping are of course heroes and may or may not need as much help as they want, but we really don't need these self appointed experts.

I for one thought that the rescue was a great feat of engineering...and wonderful to see the miners were brought back safe

Lucky this 3rd shaft actually worked and they used only one cage. It will show the world it can be done if something like this ever happens again. I heard each miner will receive 10 Grand from the Chile government. At least one of the miners wives wasn't there to greet him with a slap, instead was his mistress with a kiss and hug. Laughing

I remember reading at some point that the miners were no longer being paid their salaries because the company had run out of money. However, a judge in Copiapo has frozen $2million in assets in anticipation of legal action for damages which the relatives are starting, and of fines which the government may levy for the substantial breaches of safety regulations.

Splendid news indeed.

As I watched the drillshaft and the escape hatch I kept expecting someone to say

"It's all in a day's work for International Rescue"

Well done to all concerned Very Happy

I'd like to know a few techie bits like how did they get video pictures from the camera on top of the capsule ?, there were no wires only the one cable pulling it, when they broke through to the chamber did the hot air down there come out of the hole ?, how did they steer the drill to actually hit the chamber etc etc Very Happy

What tunes do you think we'll get as a soundtrack ? Rolling Eyes

The Jam - Going Underground ?
Aztec camera - Working in a Gold mine ?
