I know many members here are as fed up as I am that Chris Evans has extended the Breakfast Show (twice), his trailers appear all over the R2 schedule, he forever pops up on the R2 homepage like a virus....

but I'm also getting fed up of him appearing on so many threads on this forum. The place is going to ruin and I'd hate see him indirectly responsible for the ruination.

CULPRITS! Please remember Rule 2 for this forum which begins:

"2. Continual spamming of opinions, especially opinions moaning about a particular presenter or show....."

PLEASE! Use the Evans-specific threads to comment on his current show, his life, his cars, his voice, his career and his contributions to broadcasting...

This thread stays open to discuss this issue.

I do so agree with you. But what can we do? I have written to BBC to no avail. The only way I can vent any frustration is to comment on the various threads.
I remember when Ross was flavour of the BBC, I was not that happy with him, but he was flaunted and advertised and pushed at us. I can only hope that Evans will fall into a hole as Ross did..

I am a great believer in what goes round comes round...just be patient

Hear Hear!

It is getting a little mono-centric in here. Smile As my great grandma used to say, “be adventurous and life will be an adventure, be miserable, depressing and repetitive, then life will be miserable, depressing and repetitive”. Smile

Thanks Rachel and Blondehedgehog.

Ok, and I hope members can see that, for the sake of the R2ok forum, we should keep the Evans comments on the Evans threads?

Have to agree, but I concur with the above posts that it is born out of pure frustration and loss of my fav station at certain parts of the day.

I appreciate that but I have said, many times, that it has been overdone to the point of tedium, and it becomes frustrating and annoying when reference to him, directly or obtusely, is made in nearly every thread about anyone else.

You can only say so much, and it has been said. More overeggs the pudding and will diminish any impact in the event that he really does something we need to complain about.

Comment about the ongoing shows by all means. Have separate Chris Evans threads in all three sections of the top half of the board if you must, but keep the mantra (for or against) there.

Obviously the point John is making is correct and sensible but I think the fact that there is such hostility to this one particular person which comes over on virtually every thread you look at surely must tellthe BBC something namely the foolishness of bringing in a presenter against the wishes of a very significant percentage of the station's establised audience
I for one will not be satisfied until this man is removed from the network but I agree there is a time and place for venting ones feelings and to do so in the wrong place can contribute to people not seeing the validity of what you are trying to say
To be honest though John I think you might have an uphill struggle on this issue but best of luck

The thing is Ruddlescat, this isn’t a BBC Messageboard, it isn’t a place where you are able to let the BBC know that you don’t like this or that, it just won't work; there’s a proper BBC comments system for that. This is a message forum for people to talk about Radio 2 Shows, the good ones and the bad ones, with each other- not the BBC. If anyone at Radio 2 chooses to read this – so be it, but it isn’t for them. Smile

BBC complaints... here!

It's a bit like the interminable trailers either directly about his show or that just happen to feature him. I can't even bear those couple of minutes of him so absolutely no chance of me putting up with two hours of it, never mind three hours Shocked Yes, I know he's back off his holiday and there's nothing I can do about it except switch him off, which I do. But I'd quite like to be able to listen to those shows that are left for me without having my ears assaulted by this manic screech-owl. Is it really too much to ask? How about reminding us who else is on the station who doesn't scream & shout?

Rachel sorry I realise this is a discussion forum and not a BBC messageboard but I am sure as it is well known BBCpersonnel check it from time to time so it is worth posting comments
I do also pursue complaints direct with the BBC

Maybe the solution would be to have a separate 'rant about Chris Evans' section, I am not joking.
If people want to moan about him fine, it's a free country after all but it would be nice to be able to come on here and not see lots of negativity.

Just my tuppence worth. Smile

Let's not forget that John's strapline for the forum is "The Radio 2 Preservation Society".

There are many who feel that by allowing (and encouraging) Evans' dominance of the station's output and by reducing the station's output to the lowest common denominator, the BBC is effectively side-stepping the station's remit.

So, to constantly criticise Evans is really to object to the way the whole station is run, and for as long as he's allowed to annoy and alienate once-faithful listeners, the station controller is waving a proverbial red rag to an already angry bull.

So it's not surprising that many threads are dominated by comment about Evans. It's an attempt at preservation, after all.

Just my ten pence worth!

Yes but this forum is different from other previous R2-related forums.

So please remember Rule 2 for this forum which begins:

"2. Continual spamming of opinions, especially opinions moaning about a particular presenter or show....."

PLEASE! Use the Evans-specific threads to comment on his current show, his life, his cars, his voice, his career and his contributions to broadcasting...

I like the Chris Evans breakfast show.

Am I in the minority?

Clearly I am NOT in the minority in liking the Chris Evans breakfast show. Indeed his listening figures are very healthy.

Sadly on this message board all I keep reading are the same posts over and over again from the same posters slagging the guy off.

There should be a place on this forum for a balanced viewpoint to be aired.

Mark there is and you are very eloquently airing it but it doesn't alter the fact that you are in a very small minority on this forum
Nothing wrong with that just a fact!

If this is the place to have a moan about you know who - is it ok to let off steam about that flamin' TV trailer! Can someone name any other Radio 2 DJ who has been plugged so mercilessly? It's not tucked away either - prime time slots, right before Strictly and all the major programmes when they know several million will be watching. That level of promotion is unprecedented as far as I can recall.

The radio trailer also intrudes on the few Radio 2 shows I still listen to. Even Mark Lamarr - fantastic, eclectic, themed music programme, then smack in the middle of it - you know what! Mark's shows are pre-recorded, so I'm sure he's not even aware that it's been spliced in.

The BBC tactics certainly don't work for me since everytime I hear such a trailer on radio or TV I automatically either turn off or change channel and rarely go back to the original channel for several hours and I am sure many others do the same
It just avoids me being in a very bad mood for the rest of the day

I can remember a similar trailer a while back, with Wossy in it, big style – a week later he was everybody’s Mr Bad Guy and they couldn’t show it again.
