Quote: | The Radio 2 controller said he also wanted to have more women presenters on the station. "It is something I am acutely aware of," said Shennan, whose recent hirings include Zoe Ball, although he has lost Sarah Kennedy from the early breakfast slot. "Am I conscious of the need to ensure the gender balance is addressed? Yes." |

This could mean Chris Tarrant joining the station and even Liza Tarbuck having her own show. |

I don't mind Tarrant say at the weekend but I definitely don't want Lisa.
Lynn Parsons is by far the best female presenter on the network and should be given first option to have her own permanent regular show
Hopefully she will after the New Year _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Gordon Bennett would be preferable to Liza Tarbuck. |

Quoted from the article: 'Shennan said Radio 2, which has come under pressure from the BBC Trust to increase its appeal among older listeners, would be unveiling a number of presenters who were "a little older" in the next 12 months.'
I'm an 'older' listener (well, I used to listen) and I don't need older presenters to try and get me back. I want presenters that are good at their job, that have a likable personality, that have good subject knowledge and can talk to me as if I was in the room with them.
Their age and gender should not come into it, you should not run a radio station on quotas, that's how we got Zoe Ball dumped on us - 'Note to self, must go out and buy some more women for the station. Oh dear, is that all you got left, never mind she'll do, I've got a quota to fill'
Rant over. |

And
Quote: | Shennan ........ dismissed the idea that documentaries could be shifted from the evening schedule into daytime.

So a whole audience sector will continue to be ignored in the daytime schedule. _________________ -

Announcing 'older' presenters? Hang on - why not make use of those you have. Don't put Walker & Harris out to pasture! |

Well said that man.
Despite which, the average age of the station's regular presenters who have shows at least one hour long is already 54. Even the youngest, Jamie Cullum, is eligible to join the Grumpy Old Man club in four years time. I hope they're installing plenty of stairlifts at this shiny new building at Salford. _________________ Ron |
