Is anyone else sick to the back teeth of this silly novelty record? It was fun for a while, but now it's beyond a joke and everyone seems to be taking him just a little too seriously.

It just seems to be on all the time and I'm fed up with it.

It will end up being over played too much.

Heard it again today (I think on TW) so that's the first time in about eight days.... thankfully - you can only flog something to death so much. Rolling Eyes

Radio 2 do have a habit of overplaying top tunes. Of course it will be on the playlist for a while yet until the special performance has been aired. I wonder if the next tune he releases will get to number one? Most of the time they fade out after a year, is this something to do with the network trying to promote them too much in 12 months?

Who was the music artist they gave airtime to last year, who the music industry said would be best thing in 2006?

Corrine Bailey Rae. Who was also overplayed. Coincidence?

James *cough* Blunt.... Rolling Eyes

From Wiki, which I laughed at:

"On May 29, 2006, the British press reported that a local radio station Essex FM had announced that it had banned all songs by Blunt from being played, after listeners of the station repeatedly called and said they were "fed up with them". The station stopped playing the hit single "You're Beautiful" after having it on constant rotation for 14 months. They played Blunt's single "Wisemen" 26 times the next week.
A survey conducted this year reported that Blunt was the fourth most annoying thing in the UK, beaten only by cold callers, queue-jumpers and caravans." Laughing Laughing Laughing

Apparently "James Blunt" entered the hallowed halls of Cockney Rhyming Slang, too. Can't think what it refers to, but I bet whoever thought it up believed he resembled it.... Laughing

I did hear broadcasters quoting that when it was first aired. I'm sure he would be turning in his grave.

We don't know that, all we, well I, have heard is the Grace Kelly single. Don't know if he wrote it, or, if he has written anything else. I find the song pleasant and a catchy tune and he at least, IMHO, he has a good voice with a very wide range. I for one am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and wait and see if he is just a one hit wonder or has more to offer. It is not his fault that he is over played on the radio, particularly on R2, of course he will not be complaining.

Don't think I have ever heard the Mika single so I can't comment on it but that situation at Essex FM with the James Blunt single amazes me.

All the negativity seems to drift the way of the artist, but what did he do beyond make a record in an attempt to appeal to music fans and build a career in music?

The situation in my view is all the fault of the radio station concerned who should be programming their music more carefully and not leaving records on the playlists for 14 months. No wonder listeners got bored of it, presenters probably got bored of having to play it as well, small wonder there were complaints.

Ridiculous programming like that does nobody any favours.

And I wonder who they could have been playing during the 14 months in which they were constantly playing James Blunt?

Banning an artiste achieves nothing except to put peoples backs up (viz previous situations regarding the likes of Cliff Richard and Jim Reeves etc)and in a sensible radio world situations like this would be avoided.

Sadly, it seems that Mika will join the 'flogged to death' club. Joining 'Crazy' By Gnarls Barkley, 'Rehab' by Amy Winehouse, most of Lily Allen's releases, and, going back a bit further, 'They' by Jem, and 'So What The Fuss' by Stevie Wonder. At least a couple of these, I didn't mind at first but was totally sick of by the time the powers that be finally took them off the playlist.

Humphrey we're leaving - what IS that all about - and in the video why does the little girl have such a low voice (I mean, I know it isn't her voice - but well basically I don't understand it from start to finish - I've figured this doesn't matter though because it's a stupid song which is in actual fact Rubbish and meaningless anyway)

I decided not to watch the video under any circumstances (short of someone holding me down and physically opening my eyelids, that is). I have learned to mentally blot out the single when it comes on the radio, thankfully, as I'm sick of it now, much as I ended up being heartily sick of Blunt's hit and Bryan Adams' "Everything I Do". There's also an album due out shortly ("Life in Cartoon Motion" or something like that), so it's not the last we'll hear of him. Possibly KB will have it as his Album of the Week soon so R2 can play "Grace Kelly" again for the 1546th time. Rolling Eyes
