They also did this a cover of Laurie Anderson Born Never Asked, to be honest I knew about the cover but had never heard the original until now, I do like it.

Not originally it was by Daniel Johnston http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Johnston

not too sure about him but came across him on YT when I linked to the Spz version. Most of his stuff from early eighties.

Also covered by other ex spacemen 3 band Spectrum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9od_Ggh7uOM
I do hope this is covered because they both (J Spaceman and Sonic Boom) like the song rather than still getting at each other

but also covered by wilco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t59QTEWtTJo
and Beck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYKUPb-x-EU

all similar but all good artists (imo obviously )

That's a really nice song and I like both covers.... Smile

and

Eeels ~ Girl From The North Country

I liked Frijid Pink's version but you can't beat The Animals' version, with those fabulous keyboards from Alan Price.

I'm with you Schiz, It's a great version but the Animals version is the definitive version mainly for the hammond. Don't tell Eric Burdon that though

I see that Susan Boyle is singing "Halleluia" on her new album - together with carols etc. Guess which category of cover song this will come under (IMHO of course). Do Simon Cowell, the dreadful Alexandra Burke and Susan Boyle think Halleluia is a religious song? If so they have never really listened to the lyrics.

No Simon Cowell never seems to listen to anything or anybody and the other two performing monkeys just do as they are told
No insult intended to the original Monkees BY THE WAY Wink

When Classic FM had their cable TV "video jukebox" channel they used to play Scala's version of Smells Like Teen Spirit frequently.

Yes, I quite like that Renegade Soundwave. There's a weird and wonderful selection of covers of the same song down the right hand side of the youtube page.

Anyone out there heard of Francis Dunnery?
I love his cover of "Love Will Tear Us Apart", takes a couple of listens but I think it's brilliant.

Last Night I dug out my Fever Pitch soundtrack album and I was reminded how good The Pretenders' cover of 'Goin' Back' was. This would also fit in my Why don't you hear this on the radio anymore? thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiUAIJXzbMk

Essexlady, I heard Susan Boyle's cover of O Holy Night on the Alan Titchmarsh show and it's not a patch on Gail Ann Dorsey(?)'s version on the 'Child' album by Jane Siberry and others.

Ruddlescat, did you see 'Hey Hey, We're The Monkees' on Vintage TV last Sunday? There was a clip of a young Mike Nesmith in his Michael Blessing persona, singing 'Until It's Time For You To Go' (Buffy Sainte-Marie's song that Elvis also recorded).

On Sean Rowley's Joy of Music this week on Radio Kent he had a Cover to Cover special....(he has a cover to cover section every week on his show)

Love this one he played ...it's beautiful

I heard Susan Boyle's version of Perfect Day on BBC Breakfast (I was waiting for Elvis Costello and Dara O' Braian to come on) and wasn't impressed.

Simon Cowell has a habit of reducing decent songs to gutless nothings guaranteed near-constant airplay on the hair shirt spot on Radio Leeds. It's not a patch on Kirsty MacColl and Evan Dando's version on 'From Croydon To Cuba'.

I don't think Cowell knows much about music, to be honest. He might give the impression he does due to his having worked as an record company A&R man for several years, but I just cannot imagine him spending quality time listening intently to anything out of the mainstream. And, let's face it, the mainstream (one that Cowell himself has had a key role in creating) is pretty bland.

I swear that Cowell only got his most recent puppets to murder 'Heroes' because some gofor had Peter Gabriel's 'Scratch My Back' on their MP3 player and not him!

Oh, by the way, I heard the Stock/Aitken/Waterman Band Aid 2 version of 'Do They Know It's Christmas' on the Bliss channel - absolute pants.

I think I heard that the new song by the winner Matt has changed the name because the original has the word HORROR in the title ? WTF if you want to sing the song sing it don't play with it to suit.

on thread , i'd forgotten about this version of Superstar, the carpenters song, it is mentioned in Juno

I really like it, a real dark song rather than the more bubble gum sounding original (if no ones looking i'll admit I don't mind) Superstar - Sonic Youth

The cover of First Time Ever I Saw Your Face on the Seksy watches ad irritates me...like the woman's concentrating more on vocal acrobatics than the song.

I wasn't impressed with Katie Melua's version of 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' on TOTP2. Chrissie Hynde did a much better version on one of the 'Very Special Christmas' compilations, and Tori Amos did it on one of the CD singles of 'Hey Jupiter', I think.

Susan Boyle's version of Make Me A Channel of Your Peace was on Ken Bruce this morning - another minion must be a fan of Sinead O'Connor, as she's done that. I happened to turn the radio on and thought I was midway through Kate Bush's 'Lyra'...not that Boyle is in the same league as on-form KB, just that it had the same vagueness and 'will this do?' feeling about it.
