I've got a couple of contenders for this. First up is Mash. I remember laughing my head off in the cinema - even laughing at bits no-one else was laughing at. It just tickled my funny bone on lots of levels. Star of the show for me was Sally Kellerman who was totally brilliant as the uptight 'Hotlips' Houlihan, who eventually 'converts' and becomes one of the gang. Best scene was the football game with Hotlips as one of the cheerleaders.
Secondly I am a huge fan of the old Ealing Comedies - and one in particular sticks in my memory is Crooks in Cloisters with Barbara Windsor, Ronald Fraser, Corin Redgrave and Melvin Hayes. After pulling a bank job the gang end up hiding out in an abandoned monastery on a Cornish island. Disguised as monks they start growing veg and getting into crafts and pastoral life and the thought of returning to a life of crime gets less and less appealing.
Just having a quick look online - the reviews aren't good, but I personally loved it!

Mash is a great film. Don't know the other one.
some of my favorites are
Blazing Saddles - Mel Brooks, line after line just brilliant.
the Big lebowski- Coen Bro's their finest work, Jeff bridges and the rest on sparkling form.
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Guy Richie - shame richie hasn't been able to come close.
Princess bride -Rob Reiner just makes me smile this film. _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

Hi Sis how goes it?
I love MASH, extremely funny and thought provoking. Have you read the book, if not you should. As for the Ealing Comedies, Passport To Pimlico is probably my favourite but they are all worth a watch.
The Marx Brothers films are my particular choice. Duck Soup and A Night At The Opera are nailed on classics and guaranteed to brighten up anyone's day....
There ain't no sanity clause...

Me too Arthur.. I just watched three over three nights, "Coconuts", "The Big Store" and "Animal Crackers".. I think maybe "Night at the Circus" could be my favourite.... or "Duck Soup".. "Go.. and don't ever darken my towels again.. "
I'd find it hard to think of just one favourite funny film but one springs to mind as I loved it from the first viewing and that would be "Bullshot".. a spoof of the "Bulldog Drummond" films starring Alan Shearman. Billy Connolly and Mel Smith also star.
"The dashing Captain Hugh "Bullshot" Crummond - WWI ace fighter pilot, Olympic athlete, racing driver, part-time sleuth and all round spiffing chap - must save the world from the dastardly Count Otto van Bruno, his wartime adversary. And, of course, win the heart of a jolly nice young lady. "
In this clip, Crummond slowly suffers the effects of being bitten by a spider.. I love it..

Still Crazy - Bill Nighy, Billy Connelly, Stephen Rea, Timothy Spall and Jimmy Nail.
Story of an old glam rock band reforming in the 90's
I know not necessarily a comedy film but very funny in places, it also marks the beginning of Bill Nighy' s new acting career. His performance as the lead singer is great.
Thinking of Billy Connelly, has anyone seen Water I really liked this when I was younger. Starred Michael Caine, Leonard Rossiter and others, story of a carrabean island that strikes mineral water while searching for oil _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |

It was a commercial flop, though. |

Just want to say a big thankyou to Undiscovered. After reading this thread I watched Still Crazy on youtube (all the instalments are up and you can place them into a playlist to watch the movie all the way through).
Fantastic! Has to be the best and most authentic 'rock 'n' roll' movie I've ever watched. Funny as hell (Bill Nighy falling through the ice had me falling off my seat) and the music wasn't half bad either. It summed up an era perfectly. Stellar performances from all the cast and definitely on my list of favourite films of all time. |

Glad you got to see it and liked it . The Falling through the ice scene has me in stitches as well. _________________ You will hear gospel and rhythm and blues and jazz, all those are just labels, we know that music is music. |
