The excelent Sara Kennedy- late of this parish-in 1999 reffered to Ken Bruce as am "old fool". 9 Years later he "retailiated" by saying that Fleetwood Mac had written their song "Sara" about Kennedy in 1929. Which is rather silly & pointless. Was he nine years in thinking about it?

I very much doubt it. Are you trying to stir up more trouble for Ken?

Let's face it- it's hardly an exchange of witty repartee is it? Rolling Eyes
Kennedy seemed, at some point or other in her BBC career, to have a problem with almost everybody- so her remark would not be unusual.

In Ken's case it was probably for want of something to say during the link.

Not every comment spoken on radio is a carefully-worded and directed jibe... sometimes you just say the first thing that pops into your head.

Pretty sure Ken is one of the few presenters to have stuck up for Sarah over the years, both on air and in interviews. This is simply a bit of teasing.

I think you are right. I picked this up from Wikepedia, not the most reliable of sources.
I agree both comments were probably both said in jest.

And it's got nothing to do with your campaign to have Zoe Ball permanently assigned to Ken's slot? Wink

Ken was the only presenter to have the grace to mention Sarah and pay tribute to her when she left wasn't he?

I thought of Morrissey's 'The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get' when I saw the heading!

Especially the line 'Beware, I hold more grudges/Than lonely High Court judges...'

Sarah has already said in interviews that Ken is "a mate" - I don't think she meant it in the breeding sense! "Old fool" is, in any case, a term of endearment in Bunty-speak.

I'm going to hear Sarah at her "Evening with..." in Leicester tonight. It will be interesting to hear what she has to say!

I wouldn't call it a campaign.
In fact I'm feeling more well disposed towards Ken now that I note he was one of the few to pay tribute to Ms Kennedy when she left the BBC

I hope not! Might cause problems with Mrs Bruce & with sara's "Dearly Beloved".
I'd love to see a report of the Evening with sara Kennedy. Should be interesting! Cool Enjoy

JV said she would be missed right after the news when it was first announced and I think he played Sara at the end of the show. That could have been a coincidence but a nice thought if it had been planned.

I think he's really upsetting everyone at the BBC. He should open the mic at 9.30am on Monday and apologise for all his remarks over the years Laughing Thats a joke what I said. I think everyone has contributed to Sarah leaving the BBC.

How is Ken upsetting everyone at the BBC Mark? Unless you spill the beans it's quite ludicrous to say something like that.

Yeah, I always thought Norm and Zo were well tight with SK innit Cool .....so they must know all the darkest secrets Rolling Eyes
If you know the truth tell us- otherwise we will come to the conclusion that the reason is scurrilous rumour or complete nonsense.

I should think that most people working in Western House know the truth. The water-cooler gossip has been rife in the last few months, given the level of discontent among staff.

Sarah Kennedy is 60 years old. I could quite understand if she didn't want to continue getting up before the crack of dawn. It is sad that the Beeb found it necessary to start the Breakfast show earlier pushing Sarah k's start time even earlier. That was very likely the last straw.
I would love to hear Sarah Kennedy given a slot say 8AM Saturday morning or 9AM Sunday morning.
I think it is time Sunday Love songs was given a rest. Maybe sounds of the sixtees too?

I'm with you partly on this Clive-certainly axing/resting Sounds of the 60's and Sunday Love Songs permanently but certainly NOT on bringing back Sarah Kennedy.

Personally I would like to see Tony Blackburn given a weekend breakfast show-hopefully he could bring Arnold with him.

Arnold never appeared on Smooth, so why would it appear on Radio 2? Unless your talking about Richard Arnold Laughing I can't see him hosting weekend breakfast with POTPs airing on a Saturday too.

I'm strongly against the idea of losing SOTS in favour of yet another bog standard boring breakfast show
The present schedule is what sets Radio 2 apart from its commercial competitors and the last thing we need is for it to head in the direction of further blandness which is what seems to be happening already with other shows on the network
I like Tony Blackburn but he should be hosting the regular daily breakfast show in my opinion- with or without Arnold
As I said in a previous post I thought Arnold was now retired and living in Barking Smile

Lots of people are of the view that SOTS is perfectly OK where it is. Shennan and his predecessors have screwed up enough of R2 in the last few years so it's best he just leaves this "jewel in R2's rather tarnished crown".

We now have that berk Evans on for 15 hours of weekday breakfasts so let's at least have some respite at weekends.

Unfortunately, however, we don't all have jobs in Western House and are therefore party to the gossip. Rolling Eyes Some of us have to work for a living....

Sound of the 60's was an alternative to what other radio stations do / did. I say "did", because there are lots like Magic, Capital and Heart call them weekend breakfast, but they only play back to back music. Breakfast includes Music, Traffic, News, Paper reviews etc. I can't see this will happen yet at 2, but I won't hold my breath.

I know exactly what you mean. I don't work in WH either and, being self-employed, I find that I also have to work for a living. However, I do feel for some of those who do work at the Beeb these days - especially the technical and production staff - many of whom are forced to work on short-term contracts and who are being increasingly managed by idiots.

Pity really, but that's life I guess.
