Missed the first track but fantastic oldies from 1959. Lots of them too as they are all short tracks.

Did he say anything about it being his last one?

1959 has just ended and I have to disagree with you Helen
What a boring year's chart to pick for Dale's last show
I would have expected them to pick one of his own favourite years say 1969 to mark his last appearance but no such luck
At least 1983 should be better
I don't think Dale has made any mention of it being his last show so far but doubtless he will do after the 1983 chart
Unless of course when the show was prerecorded it wasn't necessarily planned for it to be broadcast today so the options had to be kept open
It will be interesting to see

The 1959 muisic was fab. I like Dale, it's such a shame he's being replaced.

Ruddles

It must have been intended to be aired today as the dates wouldn't have coincided otherwise. Or did you mean it wasn't planned to be his last show?

Got to say I'm not a huge 80s fan so I doubt they will be better. I've not looked at the playlist.

As far as I know the POTP shows are recorded/edited in batches quite some time in advance, so it's possible that he made the decision after the last chunk of recordings.

Even so, if it is his last (pre-recorded) show, I'd be surprised if they haven't tacked on a piece at the end from Dale saying "goodbye" etc.

Can't recall having heard Lydia Murdock before.

Helen Sorry yes I meant that it might not have been planned to be his last show
I agree with you and others that 1983 hasn't been brilliant either so far Sad

Hi Helen

It was Primrose Park by Dickie Pride....I didn't hear Dale say anything about it being his last show...

He said thanks to everyone who worked on the show, and the listeners over the last 10 years.

Just before the count down. He also said " see you next time". I wonder what radio 2 are going to do with him?

Not necessarily Radio 2. If he has any sense he'll run a mile from the appallingly-managed station. You never know, another radio network might have been knocking on his door! Wink Mind you, given the dire state of British broadcasting at the moment I think I'd relax in my Florida mansion if I were him.

He's got a few BBC TV gigs to full fill. It depends on the filming schedule. I guess he will be back covering wrighty, unless that Tarrants cover baby now?

I'd love to see Dale take over permanently in the afternoons but I can't see it happening unless he gives up his life in Florida
I'm not overkeen on Tarrant although he is not as bad as some people I could mention

Yes, for most of the year. That's why I've wondered how he can do a weekly POTP show without batch-recording big batches!

I'm hoping you are joking... They are really beautiful birds. I've had "George" ( as in George Segal Razz ) and his missus hanging around our place here for about 6 years now.. he's here everyday on his favourite chimney pot and gets fed pretty well, nearly every day. I can get within 6 feet of him now.
I also have a soft spot for Pigeons... yes I know, vermin.. but they do me no harm.
In fact, the chippy and I had to cut out part of a timber plate we're bolting to the wall so a mother Pigeon could still get to it's baby which has nested in an unused vent hole!
This one is still safe but yesterday, I was saddened to find two birds, one a baby, with their heads chewed off on the second floor scaffolding, by that bastard cat from next door!
I hate cats.. murdering furballs.

Then Radio 2 wouldn't offer him a fulltime gig. POTP's must have been done in batches. Maybe they wanted a different feel to how it Aires and Tony could offer that.

I think he's just concluded that 10 years is enough. I certainly hope that the show's format isn't changed in any way under Blackburn because it just doesn't need it.

Tony Blackburn has said via his Twitter page that the format will not be changing - he will even still use the Sign of the Swingin' Cymbal theme tune as used by Dale and, for those who remember (I'm too young to), Alan Freeman.

So, to recap, Dale did thank his production team and listeners for the last ten years. It was over in a flash - no Wogan-style valedictory speech.

He is booked to present highlights of the CMA Awards on Friday 11th November, 10pm to midnight, and we'll doubtless see him on TV.

I'm sure TB won't change anything.

Pity Santa it sounds like the kind of thing you don't see too often nowadays
It depends on the actual model of course but generally they are getting quite rare these days at the car shows

It was indeed pity Ruddles as my mum owned it from nearly new.. it was a 1962 Ford Consul 375 lowline in Ermine white with a very nice metallic blue interior going by the name of "Caroline" complete with a "Caroline on 199" sticker on the bumper.
A long spell of storage in a damp garage took it's toll and I had to break it. Sad
Still, it's parts are all over the globe now!

Looking forward to hearing Tony Blackburn in this slot shortly.

Will he be bringing Arnold out of retirement.

I groaned a bit when I heard it was 1959, but there were some great songs. The Primrose Lane song was very good. And not even a big hit!

(And why did Jerry Keller release Here Comes Summer in the autumn?)

The 50s are virtually ignored by the dullards who choose Radio 2's daytime music ('hey, we've not played ELO for twenty minutes now') so I guess it's only fair that the decade is played once in a while.

Sooner than you think. He starts on 6th November. I very much doubt Arnold will join him.

Not only were Dale's shows recorded in batches they were also voicetracked (ie: he recorded the links and the music was added later). Tony's first few shows are being recorded "as live" and WILL soon be completely live!

I hope they sort out the gaffes... i can't believe they could let
It's raining by the Darts from 1978 to slip through on a 1981 chart
Shakin' Stevens had this in the chart and it was a completely different song

And am i right in thinking that Eloise has been played twice today?
once on SOTS and again on POTP.... great song, but ridiculous duplication

TB sounds awful too, really fake
