Mark announced on Saturday that he is going to be away for the next 2 months.
He was also very coy about who would be standing in for him.
I'll miss him-I think he is a great DJ/presenter. |

He is indeed a good presenter, and his music knowledge is astoundingly good. I do remember him saying once, when filling in for Ross on a Satirday morning, that he likes to spend time bumming around the USA checking out specialist vinyl record stores, so maybe that's what he'll be doing. How I envy him! |

I think I heard Mark saying that he had recorded the shows for the time he's away. The Radio 2 schedule says that Mark is doing his own show this Saturday.

I used to love hearing Mark standing in for Johnathan Ross. He and Jo Brand used to make a great team. |

Yes, I did too. They had a great rapport with each other. Trouble is that I'd got into the habit of tuning to Planet Rock (Rick Wakeman) after SOTS and invariably missed their stand-in shows. |

Good to hear Mark earlier today.
Clearly he has recorded a number of shows for us to enjoy whilst he is away.
I do think he is a great, very knowledgeable presenter.
I never thought I would say it, but he brings a great wide ranging choice of music to the fore most of which I have never heard before. |

I agree, with Mark and Bob both consigned to the early hours i do think R2 is missing a trick _________________ I found out how you can hurt an insect. It's the bees knees |

Really enjoyed listening to Mark's latest show last night.
I think he would make an excellent replacement on SOTS when Brian Matthew decides to call it a day.
Mark's knowledge of yester year music-artists/songs and alike is superb.
Give Mark more airtime on Radio 2 I say. |

Mark doesn't attempt to hide his contempt for mainstream, daytime radio, so midnight is where he'll stay, with the freedom that comes with the slot, and he and his listeners should be grateful for that. _________________ Ron |

I agree. However, I'd prefer somebody like Johnnie Walker (who was very much a part of 60s pop radio, after all) to take Brian's seat when the time comes but I'd certainly like to hear more of Lamarr on R2. Sadly I can't see it happening whilst Shennan is at the helm.

Yes, Johnnie Walker would make a good replacement for Brian on SOT60s though Mark Lamarr is far more knowledgeable than JW. As said above, JW was there at the time and spent the late 60s (and early 70s) championing album tracks whereas the Tony Blackburn types were just playing the predictable stuff.
I still like Brian Matthew though, even if he does prefer the early 60s. He did play Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit yesterday though! |

I thought that JW stood in for BM very well for the weeks that Brian was receiving hospital treatment a couple of years back. He added a personal insight and anecdotes which put the songs in context. |
