How much time off does he need?

As far as I'm concerned he's allowed 52 weeks in any one year - no more, no less (especially no less!).

Trouble is, if he's allowed 52 weeks holiday we'll still be paying his salary. Better he's sacked, don't you think? Idea

Interesting - looks like they've found a 'regular dep' - but I still think they're planning on landing him into a slot somewhere, I just can't work out where.

I think it will be Saturday first thing if Zoe moves to Dermot slot, if he does leave, or Sunday?

Is Dermot rumoured to be leaving when he takes his X Factor gig to America? I'd be happy to see Zoe on in an afternoon - as for Richard doing Saturday mornings, it seems a bit of a twilight slot for him.

I have wondered how long Wogan plans to keep up the Sunday show - should this disappear in the next year, I wonder if Ball will return to full-time or whether he could slot-share with Madeley? I've really warmed to Madeley - he reminds me of Sarah Kennedy in many ways; I agree with not a word he says, but he says it in such an engaging manner.

God help us if Zoe Ball takes Saturday afternoon. Dermot mumbles and bumbles a lot, but even that's better than Ball's cackle.

I listened to Radio Caroline via ShoutCast on my iPhone most of yesterday and what a refreshing change that was from Radio 2 junk. Great music (all the time), no phone-in or text "interaction" and just quick, straight-to-the-point links from knowledgeable presenters who give their time free to the station. And they're good presenters, too - better by far than many of the idiots employed by Bob Shennan.

I was quick to realise that Radio Caroline (now broadcast from the Ross Revenge at its mooring at Tilbury) is as good as it's ever been and so much better than 90% of Radio 2's dire output.

Real Radio, please!

I'm sure I heard Madeley say he was on for 2 weeks so that will take it to Jan 17th.

Any time Evans is off is a bonus as far as I'm concerned!

It really should be much longer! Mind you, going on the reviews - which largely describe Evans as being "past it" - and public comments on web forums, etc. - it was pretty appalling television. Let's hope C4 commissions much more of it and Evans burns himself out (a process that I believe has already started). That way we might just gain a decent breakfast show on R2!

It's like those desperate "celebrity something-or-other" shows. People who've had their 15-minutes of fame somewhere, sometime, and are now deemed celebrities.

I'm just reading Stephen Fry's excellent autobiography (called "The Fry Chronicles") and he has much to say on this whole subject of celebrity shows. Very well observed - and funny, too!

I really like Richard Madeley at breakfast. He just needed to get himself into gear this morning. After a while he did settle in very nicely.
He said " Both him and Judy travelled upto London to stay for the week from Cornwall. I heard Janice saying this also over night. ' She and her other half travel up from Birmingham to stay the week'
Does the BBC provide hotels for them, or they have to pay for this? Evans has said before ' He pays for his own' if he stays in London. Thats probarly incase there is complaints.

Janice lives in south west london and it might have been for a couple of weeks that her partner stays but they have a couple of kids and she goes up to brum at weekends

Having now used a reputable translation service, I think I've worked out that your concern is whether they have to foot the bill for their accomodation whilst in London or not.

As for the Madeleys, they don't live at Talland Bay near Looe in Cornwall (a place I know well). This their "retreat".

As for the others, i don't know.

Whether or not overnight accomodation is included in their respective fees, surely this is subject to the contracts that they or their agents would have agreed with the BBC?

He's unbearable. Not quite as unbearable and the totally unbearable idiot he deputises for in this slot, but unbearable he certainly is. It's worse that even the most bland BBC Local Radio station at this time of the day.

What on earth is Bob "What On Earth Am I Up To?" Shennan up to in drafting him in?

I am waiting to have my ipod doo dar fitted to my radio then I won't have to listen to this drivel ever again.

I don't like Evans but boy does madeley make him look good, and for having vacuous Phillips to do the papers says it all really.

Yes quite dreadful entertainment this am.

Cannot understand how Madeley thinks he is a presenter-very poor indeed.

Smooth's breakfast alternative for the rest of the week for me.

Well, we could go down the traditional route, boil him up with some sugar, throw in a few sultanas, tomatoes and cucumber, making a nice chutney, perhaps add some onions and carrot maybe some swede and vinegar for a good old pickle or perhaps we could have him split and smoked like a kipper or plain old salted and then hung in cold place for months. Staked out and sun-dried is another possibility, or maybe sat at a jaunty angle with his headphones on, in a glass-vat of formaldehyde and then entered for the Turner Prize but no, I favour a more scientific, less epicurean approach. We should have him cryogenically frozen and then stored in a time-capsule so that future generations will be able to answer the question that I’m sure will be on everyone’s lips in many hundreds of years time. I’m quite certain that there’ll be a museum dedicated to it with our anathema as the centre exhibit. Oh… silly me… the question. What is cheese?

Richard M is fab this morning.

I think someone did all that to him twenty years ago; he hasn't changed since then.

RM sounds croaky this morning; is RA on standby?
