Nice to see you, to see you nice.
Another refugee from the old R2 website. I gave up on it when it became the Scott Nelson show. |

Hi everyone
I've finally signed up after lurking around for a while. I did sign up to the R2 message board towards the end, but my first post got modded and wasn't allowed for containing foreign words - even though it was on the thread discussing songs in foreign languages
I first started listening to Radio 2 when Chris Evans took over Virgin Radio. I used to like listening to the Russ & Jono breakfast show, but that suddenly disappeared and CE took over. I like Radcliffe & Maconie best on Radio 2 and have made a couple of suggestions for The Chain, but not got one accepted yet. |

Me too. Unfortunately, Evans and Coleman hated each other, which explains why he was the first casualty of the new Evans regime. |

Thank you for the welcome.
I've been listening to Radio 2 since the mid 70s and have a wealth of archive material and radio-related "stuff" that I hope I can share with you.
Now resident in France I do all my listening via the internet. Thank goodness for the i-Player.

Yes, welcome indeed. It's interesting to hear from yet another radio archivist! I have hundreds of hours of off-air recordings which I keep planning - with the best of intentions - to digitise and make available for sharing, but am not often able to do anything about it due to the limitations of time and day-to-day stuff.
Wouldn't it be nice to create an online pool of stuff that we can privately access online? |

Great to have Andy W on board, someone with a wide, possibly the widest, knowledge of Radio 2 here.
Colin mentions a privately accessible site where we could access BBC archives. The domain I have r2ok.co.uk currently has about 2 gigs free. (nearly 100 of my own podcasts are there) so there's space available for mp3's of old shows. A half-hour show can be made to 30meg mp3
I don't think the Beeb have much issue with folks sharing old R2 programmes, well it depends how old they are. Programmes from decades ago often the Beeb don't have archived copies themselves!
A colleague of mine, who posts on light music forums, currently uploads material from the Light Programme and Music While You Work over at website http://mastersofmelody.co.uk/ _________________ -

John, it's interesting to learn of your own online archive. That's pretty much what I do too - I have an FTP "cloud" server where I dump a load of my stuff from time to time, including video.
It's easy, of course, to protect downloads with a password gateway so that only trusted people can access files.
So you produce your own podcasts? I do too - mostly for third party organisations but also for my own business, video as well as audio. I edited one only this morning! |

Some would say archivist, some would say hoarder!
All my programmes, until about 10 years ago, are on cassette and I've started to digitise some in the last year but it's a long process. If there's anything specific people would like to hear on this website maybe one of us could provide the audio (assuming we have it).
I started a blog recently and so far any audio files are on uploaded onto 4shared. With apologies for the blatant plug, you can read/hear more at:

I can place audios and mp3's of shows onto r2ok server. You can put links on a blog so folks can (left click) play them directly or (right click save target as) save them to their PC. No passwords needed.
e.g. my podcasts are listed here
http://www.r2ok.co.uk/dancebandshow.htm
Nos 11-99 are still downloadable. Playlists details on the linked page. _________________ -

Andy W: if you're interested in pirate radio jingles I presume you've got The Who's excellent The Who Sell Out album from 1967. |

I went out and bought that album just for the jingles back in the early 70s. I recently acquired it on CD as well. Mind you, all that stuff is now available in digitally-remastered form anyhow.
I love "The Who Sell Out" though. Fabulous album. |
