I have given Drivetime another chance & tuned in a few times but I had to switch off today as the pointless waffle waffle goes on forever, the particuarly stupid confessions or whatever it is called is particuarly trying. Todays was particuarly stupid & I had to switch off after this particuarly tedious & pointless waffle seemed like it was never going to end
I fled back to Magic

I enjoy Drivetime when I listen which is only occasionally and I thoroughly enjoy the confessions feature
Used to love it on the Radio 1 breakfast show and still do
Simon Mayo is a very talented and versatile presenter

I later tuned into Radio 3's Drivetime "In Tune". Quite a pleasant change from all the others & not as heavy as you might expect

I agree with Ruddlescat 100% Simon Mayo is a very talented presenter. I listen to Drivetime when ever I can and really enjoy the show. The relationships and banter betweeen him and the regular contributors on the show is relaxed and enjoyable. I like confessions and am really enjoying the book club slot. This week's choice - Dark Matter, a ghost story was not a book I might have normally picked to read but it now in my basket at Amazon. I always take something away from Simon's show: new info, new author or just a giggle and a laugh on my way home
FANTASTIC, in my opinion the best regular show on R2.

I too enjoy Drivetime. It's really bedded in well now, just quietly with no great fanfares. I miss Pauline but Rebecca is better since her break, I felt she was still part of the previous host's show.

I usually tend to switch on while confessions is on, I didn't listen to Simon on Radio 1 so wasn't familiar with it, and it's not my favourite part of the show.

I started listening to Drivetime when Simon Mayo took over mostly feeling relief that I could but now I really enjoy the prgramme. I agree that the relationship between Simon and his colleagues seems to be both relaxed and friendly.

Think you're in the minority here Clive.

I stopped listening to Drivetime in the summer, but have to say I am back this week and enjoying it. It is nice to have something to tune in to on weekdays again! Smile

I’m sort of with you Clive but only on the way up. Chris Evans is good on the Radio at any time but the people around him and how they all interact can make his show fantastic or not quite as fantastic. When CE was on Drivetime, it was a fantastic show – I loved it, the entire thing was perfect- a master-class in broadcasting. I ran from my office to my car after work to make sure that I didn’t miss a second of it. The CE Breakfast Show is good but not as good as his Drivetime Show. Simon Mayo’s Show is good: it’s up there among the best of the rest, there are some elements of it that could be better but without going into the really fine detail, it’s not really worth changing it- it’s ok as it is. Simon is a bit of a slave to his script- he should break free more often but it’s ok if he doesn’t. It’s his show.

Before you get the knives out – it’s just what I think, and I’m nobody.

Alex is still the best. Smile

I agree with you. I preffered Chris Drivetime to Chris Breakfast. In fact, since I retired to care for my mum, I seldom bother with CE Breakfast, apart from the last half hour or so.
I do think Simon's show has improved, but it is just too busy for me. Too much waffle.

I'm with Clive on this one, Mayo is just boring and bland, and as someone else described him 'Radio's Mr Beige'

I've never enjoyed any of his shows, even from his Radio 1 days, he just seems so pompous and smug, 5live probably suited his talents best.

Although it pains me to say this I preferred Evans on Drivetime, although not as much as I did Walker.

Clive its a bit rich to suggest there's too much waffle on Drivetime now when you look at the record of the previous Drivetime presenter both when he did that show and now at breakfast
If there is any waffle on Drivetime now at least its intelligent waffle a considerable improvement on what went before and no constant talking over the music
I certainly wouldn't want to go back to the previous situation

I certainly agree that Simon Mayo treats music with more respect than Chris Evans does. And on a music station, I think that's important.

I also think Simon gives his colleagues more respect than Evans. I remember Chris Evans telling the listening public that Foxy was pregnant. Sadly, while Foxy did her best to remain professional, it was clear from her reaction that she had told Chris about her pregnancy privately and didn't want it broadcast - and had told him so. His insistance on breaking that confidence was, to my mind, unforgivable and I can't imagine Simon Mayo knowingly doing anything like that.

Evans bragged about bedding Holly Samos in his Radio 1 days, too, much against her wishes. It can put you off someone, and to enjoy a radio show day in and day out you have to like the people involved.

Completely agree and I don't know if it's his tone of voice but he always sounds a bit cyncial and not that interested, he sounded the same when doing the R2 album shows.

Homework etc is for kids and the 3 letter thing is pointless as well Rolling Eyes

I've always liked Simon Mayo as a radio presenter (I always listened to his Radio One breakfast show many moons ago), but there's something about his Drivetime show I just don't like, but I can't put my finger on what it is. I guess it has something to do with the fact that I'm long out of the habit of listening to R2 at that time of the day - ever since Evans elbowed Johnnie Walker out and destroyed it.

I tend not to listen now - I merely hear it on occasions.
