Try the button marked "Live Webcam" on the upper right side.

I've never understood the need for radio webcams (other than the BBC trying to look up to date). It's radio for crying out loud, you don't watch it (if 'watching' qualifies as one picture update every so often), you listen to it.

Radio webcams are utterly pointless and a waste of money.

I don't understand it either. I would have thought that, for a presenter, it's only necessary to be heard on an audio medium. A webcam adds what I think must be for many an uncomfortable intrusion into the person's workspace. Why do we need to see them? Very odd....

I can't imagine the late, great, John Peel welcoming a web cam into the studio. He'd have seen it as a completely un-necessary element to his broadcasts.

Totally agree with the last two posts.

Yeah, when 6Music was saved, one of it's presenters Adam Buxton was on Channel 4 News and he was asked where they could make the savings now that the station was still being funded and he said "webcams." When one of the trendy internet-savvy people are saying they're pointless, you'd hope management would notice.

No chance. The BBC have proved time and time again that they don't give a t*ss what the licence payer thinks of what they do and how they spend (I mean waste) their money.

Steve Wright doesn't have a webcam. It's a question everyone wonders. " Is he really there" Laughing

Well hang on - how much money would a webcam save? It costs to buy but then you just point it... if they wanted to save money, slimming down web-content could be one way but it misses the point of what the Beeb are trying to do.

Presenters have to sign an argreement to show there face on the webcam. They probarly get more money for this. The guests have to be told if the webcam is on when they come into the studio.

I think the webcams are also used to monitor what's going on in the studios as well; I saw this once at my local BBC station (BBC Radio Gloucestershire) where live webcam feeds of the other studios are shown on a screen in each studio. It probably doesn't cost that much to simply send a still image version to the website.

If it was simply a camera pointing at the studio that'd be fine, but presumably there are costs involved in streaming content onto the web and making sure the servers are able to cope with traffic. If 100,000 people are watching Chris Evans in a field that's going to cost lots of money.

Sure, I agree - the 'live footage' that Evans and Wogan has procured this year will have come with an interesting price tag however I still doubt that the regular studio webcam adds much to the costs of the BBC.
