Prince William and Long term girlfriend Kate Middleton are to marry in spring or summer of 2011. It comes the year his late mother would have turned 50. I don't know if this will happen in May as there are local elections so maybe a summer wedding.

Do these royal types pay for their own weddings or is it all out of the public purse?
Since david Cameron has declared how happy he is for them, maybe he should foot the bill out of his own personal pension

Good news! I hope they have a long and happy life together. You can’t beat a good Royal Wedding for lifting everyone’s spirits. Smile Another plate and mug for the cabinet - yay!

Sorry Rachel but when the country is heading towards the abyss a royal wedding is just a nice way of trying to take peoples eye of the ball.
Im sick of it already

Whatever your views on royalty here seems a decent young man who has given his fiancee his mother's engagement ring and then, today, spoke lovingly of her thus making sure in his eyes she didn't miss out on their day...what a lovely gesture ...brought tears to my eyes

I wish them both well

I agree
I know that economically its not a good time to have to be spending public money on something like this but it is a one off event never to be repeated and I think it is important to give the happy couple a proper traditional wedding
I'm not by any means a keen royalist but I think these kind of events are part of our British tradition and I'm sure quite a lot of revenue will be generated from foreign tourists who come here specially for the event
Not to mention of course the likely boost to local pubs all over the country with ordinary people using the event as an excuse to get completely blotto
Shocked

The Government will set up a committee to arrange this. It comes from the tax payers purse. We really can't afford this and they will not be asking Ireland for help, as they can't afford anything at present.

The ring which is a late mothers is lovely. I loved the quote from Prince William, " It felt like my mother is here" I bet she's pleased about that. Rolling Eyes

I won't be standing on the streets of London. Depends when it is too, I might not be in the country. The only reason I don't care, as it's going to cost a ...... fortune as I said - "above"

It will be a boost to the economy for many people.

Great news.

She looks a bit chavvy to be a princess but she will look the part very soon. Very nicely spoken both of them, no posh accents! Now THAT is progress!

Yes, because without the financial issues, I'm sure Ireland would be the first to help organise the wedding of a future British monarch!

I too wish them well, they look a lovely couple.

As for the country not being able to afford it, I don't suppose it could when the Queen married Prince Phillip in 1947, 2 years after the end of WW2. It's something to look forward to.

All those moaning whingers who say Kate and William should get married on the cheap can leave the country if they find it too much: Royal Weddings are part of our make-up and we do them very well, just as we do all formal occasions well. It's so nice to have some positive news for a change, so let's enjoy it and wish them well.

Indeed. Although if they leave the country they'll probably find that, wherever they go, the people will be watching and celebrating with even more fervour - it's only the British who moan about the Royal family.

For what it's worth, I wish them well, hope their wedding day is a happy one, and their marriage a long and happy one. They appear to be well matched, in terms of maturity and personality, and they appear to have the blessing of their parents (and his grandparents), nearly all of which were absent from the union of William's parents. I think we shall get an additional Bank Holiday... and something good to look forward to amongst all the gloom of everyday 21st century life.

I just checked & the total cost for getting married in a registry office is £103.50. I'm sure they can afford to pay for that themselves Cool

Funnily enough that is exactly how much hubby and I spent on our wedding. A morning off work, £103.50 and 60p to park the car- we could have got away with 30p for the car-park, if we had known it would take under an hour.

I'm listening to Jeremy Vine at the moment (something I don't do that often due to its tabloid orientation) and - guess what? - we now have to be subjected to an un-necessary discussion about what Jeremy himself has described as "that wedding". In the first 20 minutes I've heard nothing but waffle from contributors.

I don't care about "that wedding" and again the media - particularly the BBC, unfortunately - has gone completely overboard with all this nonsense.

Radio 2 = Radio Off, yet again!

Royal Weddings are part of our make-up . Please

Time we got rid of them all if all these other coutries like them so much then let them live over there.

Good for the country? not if you believe in democracy and accountability

We didn't pay for the car parking, we didn't know we had to, and got a £30 ticket, something to remember Rolling Eyes

The Royal wedding will take place on Friday 29th April 2011 at Westminster abbey. It will also be a Bank Holiday.

So, some bloke who's in the RAF and his bird are getting married in a big church in London on April 29th next.

"Mr Cameron said: "We want to mark the day as one of national celebration, a public holiday will ensure the most people possible will have a chance to celebrate on the day."

I just can't wait to "celebrate on the day".

Whoopie-doo-dah.

Radio and TV will class it as a Bank Holiday too. Although BBC, ITV and Sky will be going on about it all day. Radio 2 could have a Royal Wedding special. ( I guess there be some Text and Email specials.) Laughing Prince William will have to just take a day off for the wedding as he's on duty, so it will be in lieu. RAF just don't shut for a Royal wedding.

Mark knowing Bob Shennan his idea of a Radio 2 wedding special will probably to have the Ginger one doing an outside broadcast from a tent pitched in the grounds of Westminster Abbey

That really would make some folks turn in their grave Mad

Taken from the article

Kate Middleton

Prince William and Catherine

Why does the initial letter of her name change depending on which of the forms of her name is used?...

I believe the previous weekend is Easter weekend so its the usual thing
No Bank Holidays for months and then four in the space of two weeks and another one at the end of May
Why can't they spread them out a bit Sad
