I used to really enjoy Simon Mayo's Drivetime, but the increasing amount of airtime given to the sports reporter (Matt?) is causing me to switch off.

Sports bore me silly at the best of times but it's easy enough to turn the raido down once an hour for Matt's usual dull sports reports, but Matt seems to be used increasingly for non-sports chatter.

Perhaps I'm just an old grouch, but the guy drives me up the wall and is ruining Drivetime for me.

He's nowhere near as bad as Johnnie Saunders
I do agree however that sports reporters should stick to what they do best
I don't mind Sally being given a greater role though
She's a natural on radio and if Bob Shennan wants more females on Radio 2 personally I'd give Sally her own show Very Happy

I believe Sally B did once have a crack at presenting on her own and by her own admission was no great shakes at it. At least she had the decency to step away from a role she didn't suit- respect, Sal! Cool

Yeas, i remember Sally's one and only show - it was a few years ago in the late evening slot (when either Allinson or Radcliffe were presenting). She wasn't great, but she wasn't dreadful either.

As for Matt wotsisname not being as bad as Johnnie Saunders - have to disagree there, although admittedly there isn't that much in it.

Perhaps sports reporters are, for some reason, 'designed' to be annoying (it's what happens when your brain loves sport, sport, sport .......... ).

Sally's had a couple of goes at DJing. I too remember when she sat in for Richard Allinson on his old late night mid week show, but she also did the early morning Saturday show at least once, I think she sat in for Janey Lee Grace.

Yes, it was either Janey or Tim for a couple of shows. It was at the time when her profile was massive and I guess either she or management thought she was bigger than simply doing traffic reports. They were wrong!

I disagree with the comments about Matt on Drivetime. I really enjoy the contributions Matt, Rebecca and Sally make to the show. I think the relationships and interaction between all of them and Simon are very funny and witty and they all seem to have so much fun. Long may it continue Very Happy

I only remember her doing the late night sit in for Richard Allinson, it wasn't good listening from what I recall.

Who was the female sports reporter on Monday with Simon? I have heard her with Richard Madeley before.

It seems to be the thing these days with the sidekicks, CE has his sports reporter and SM has his as well, TW used to have his pair of unfunny sidekicks. They give them all too much time to join in Rolling Eyes

I thought Ali did a fine job on SM's show. I'd give her the job full-time- she wasn't on a massive ego-trip, she certainly knew her stuff and has a good sense of humour.
