So far confirmed.

Quote:
Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders will be making their debut as radio presenters as they bring some festive fun to the airwaves this yuletide.

Be afraid, be very afraid! It quotes Bob Shennan as saying:

"We are already discussing further projects with them and hope to keep the French and Saunders inimitable brand of humour on Radio 2 during 2011."

Thanks Bob, what have I ever done to upset you?

You gotta hand it to our Bob. He's certainly capable of coming up with creative, edgy ideas!

Not.

"The addition of French and Saunders will strengthen Radio 2's impressive comedy portfolio. Comedians Graham Norton, Alan Carr and Paul O'Grady already host weekend shows on the station. "

Some of those might have been funny once. Or twice. Long time ago.

So this is BS's definition of comedy. Not original comedy series or new "standup" talent, but old chestnuts past their sell-by date, soft and mushy in the middle. All they're good for is talking the hind leg off a donkey (not a real one, of course)

Humour is subjective but I tend to agree with all that has been said...not having seen any ratings for the other comedy shows mentioned in the press release maybe I am wrong to ask but who said that Rhod Gilbert's Bulging Barrel Of Laughs, Hot Gossip, And The Winner Is and The Jason Byrne Show were/are successful.

Sometimes you get a spooky premonition you are going to be in a minority of one and this is one of those occasions.

I love French and Saunders. I was even one of the 10 known worldwide fans of Jam and Jerusalem. I estimate this number based upon the comments on the POV board where my appreciative postings were like trying to sell snow to the eskimos. I even laughed myself silly at their last and universally slated joint comedy effort on the Beeb.

I occasionally find meself going on youtube watching their videos. Ab Fab, Vicar of Dibley and Dawn's Bjork and Catherine Zeta, the Abba classic and Jennifer's Cher amongst others.

Having said all that, I just can't see them working on Radio - Dawn in particular. Seeing her talk and hearing her talk are two entirely different things. For me they did some fantastic stuff, but do I think they will work on Radio 2? If I was a betting woman my bet is that this will probably be a turkey.

I like French and Saunders as well (good to hear JS is well Very Happy ) but the risk is transferring them to radio as it can be either be good or dire.

Comedy on R2 has never been funny to me Rolling Eyes

R2 seem to 'experiment' with 'celebs' and they can be very bad.Don't they try them out first ? Surely national radio shouldn't be a testing ground Rolling Eyes

Christmas Eve Highlights

Alan Carr Office Party

Quote:
As listeners wind up for the festive period and eat the last mince pies in the office, they can kick start the Christmas fun and laughter at Alan Carr's Office Party. Forget the last-minute stresses and strains of Christmas Eve – dashing to the shops, making sure the food's ready to go, wrapping the presents – and enjoy Alan's last festive bash before the big day.

Yuletide programming (it starts halfway through December and seems never to stop until New Year) is a complete no-go area for me - not just on Radio 2 but most BBC outlets. It's all full of the same old awful rubbish.

According to the bumper Christmas RT. How true it could be Lynn Parsons is hosting Early breakfast the week leading upto Christmas & the week leading upto New Year. ( I wonder when she finishes Smooth breakfast )

It be Chris Evans on breakfast the week leading upto Christmas, then Aled Jones the week leading upto New Year.

Richard Allinson is covering Ken Bruce the week leading upto New Year

Craig Charles is covering for Steve Wright ( 1-4pm ) & Patrick Kietly covering Drivetime. ( 4-7pm) - week leading upto New Year.

Haven't seen the Xmas Radio Times (is that really available now), but you can see the BBC Press Office programme info here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/radio/2010/wk51/

Use the links down the right hand side to navigate to each individual day.

I'm sure last week Russell Davies sais he had a show on Christmas Day but I can't see it on the listings. I'll listen what he says tonight.

The Christmas Radio Times isn't out yet. Although I bought 11-17 Dec on Friday along with this current week's.

I would expect it will be out later this week going on that.

Some on these boards are in danger of being too negative.

Looking at the Xmas and New Year schedules the variety of programmes is actually quite impressive.

French and Saunders who knows may well turn out to be good radio.

Yep, if this place were a thermometer, it would be more negative than central Scotland was last week. It’s just the cross we happy positive people have to bear- forums are stuffed full of miserable people whom spend their short pointless lives waiting to be offended, incensed or let down, and then moan about it. That’s the way it is, just let it wash over you. Seeing what it's like to be negative makes me feel lucky. Smile

Ah yes Colin but of course negative is not always what some people assume

If negativity includes an element of constructive criticism and by taking on board that criticism it leads to a better position then what some people think of as negative is in reality positive

So perhaps then they are the negative ones for not realising that Confused

My remark to Rachel was slightly tongue-in-cheek. I half expected her to come back to with a comment along the lines of "Well you can flipping well talk"!!!

She loves me really.

So somebody who does not like Christmas gets a show on Christmas day! You couldn't write this stuff, could you.

Fortunately I don't like Mr O Grady (the voice that launched a thousand snores), so I won't be listening to Mr O Grumpy.

Of the shows on 2 over Xmas, I'll probably tune into these-
XMAS DAY
8AM Junior Choice with Stewpot (I'll give it a whirl anyway & see how it goes)
10AM Paul O'Grady
7PM The London Palladium Story
8PM Eric & ernie
BOXING DAY
5PM Very tentatively- French & saunders. But I'll have the net ready for a webby radio alternative if it is too awful!

Otherwise there are a number of radio stations on the net I enjoy & will be turning to
One is an Israeli AC Music station 88FM- mellow popular music
US Country station WSM- a range of country
Failing these I'll be checking out Beeb shows on the i player!
