You asked didn't you? if you didn't want anyone to vote no you shouldn't have started a poll.

This will depend on what type of format he would want to do and the network could fit into it's over subscribed present schedule and format.
I do feel that Lady' your efforts are going to be hampered, as he will be another broadcaster who wont feel the air of radio 2 studios with all those celebrities taking over the airwaves. |

To be fair though if I'd started a poll a few years ago substituting the words 'Danny' and 'Baker' with 'Chris' and 'Evans' or 'Russell' and 'Brand' I'd have anticipated much the same response. And yet it's they - the more inventive, non-generic controvertial types - like Danny - who appear to be the way forward on R2. And what's more they're defying the evolution-phobe naysayers with their popularity on the station.
Keep the 'no' votes coming! You're playing right into LD's hands! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Well, I was one of the 'maybes'. For me, it would depend on the slot, the format and the day. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I would have voted maybe, but the slot does not exist where I would want to listen to this failed Radio1, currently local radio, alleged presenter. _________________ Geddon

I voted yes, unsurprisingly - to compare him with the likes of Evans, Woss or Brand (yeuch!) does him a great disservice. I know he's been closely associated with Evans over the years, but Baker is the organ grinder to his monkey.....if he turned up, I might even start listening to R2 again! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

Interestingly, so far, 40% are in favour and 60% not so not the complete negative some might have expected. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

He used to be the brains behind Jonathan Ross. For quite a few years he wrote every slightly funny word Ross said.
I've put meself down as a Yes, but I fear it would overfill the schedule with "shouty blokes". Put him in as a swap with Brand, Evans or Ross perhaps? |

Yep, my feelings exactly, which is why I was a 'maybe', depending on the slot. I'd be all for him replacing gobby JR on a Saturday morning - I'd even forgo listening to "Fighting Talk" on R5Live if that happened. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Yeah, but like I said, if Evans and Brand weren't on R2 and I ran a similar poll...
Broadcasters who dare to stick their heads above the bland, generic radio parapet are always going to be shot down to a certain extent on a forum like this. Doesn't mean they can't do good business, as I believe Evo and Brand are doing.
I believe the shape R2 is in now, if Baker were brought to R2 there wouldn't be much of an outcry and, like Evans, he'd gradually prove himself to be actually a mature and able presenter who fits into the sound of the new R2 superbly.
Lest we forget when Derek Jameson joined R2 he was crap, and some would say he was till the end, but I actually grew to like him (without his missus!) and with 6 million tuning in towards the end of his tenure evidently so did a few others. Hayes or Bruce couldn't come anywhere near 6 million on breakfast. So, there you are. Conclusive proof that gobby cockneys are the way forward!... Baker should be on National Radio right now. I don't care which station - I'd tune in to R3 to listen to this guy.
Give him Wogan's slot. Give it to him right now. _________________ There are two types of people: those who have something to say, and those who have to say something. |

I voted yes but it depends on the format.I don't particularly like him as a broadcaster but can overlook that-as I do with certain other presenters-if the music content is right.
And judging by what I have been told about his London show, the music content is right and the enthusiasm is there as well.
So why not just give him a try and if it works it works and if it doesn't it doesn't?
With all due respect to Lady BDS, these arguments for and against Danny Baker have run for years, so much so that I was often calling for them to be banned from the BBC Radio 2 Message Board (remember that?)
The only way to sort it I think is to let him go on the station and judge him on that.If you like him great, if you don't, then don't listen.
Much as I like Radio2 in general, there's always been plenty that I don't listen to and leave for others to enjoy.Weekdays at 5pm and Saturday mornings at 10am for instance.....

Hear, hear - it would be interesting to see what kind of go DB made of it if he was allowed to stand in during SW's next break. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Well, interesting to see those that catagorically don't want him is only 2 votes ahead of those who do or are willing to give him a try.
You're right. He has matured hugely and I think many will be pleasantly surprised by what they now hear. We had a phone-in the other week about the Dagenham Girl Pipers! That mature enough for you? _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Well, of course Chris learned at the feet of the master and, unlike Steve, Dan doesn't do the same things in the same spot in the same way every single day... or have a boot-licking entourage for that matter!

Well done Fred! (Nice website by the way!)
A Fellow Baker fan from Danny's Treehouse has apparently suggested to LD that Baker's Podcast becomes part of the R2 website and excerpts trailed on the station. "The First R2 Show Not On R2!"
Genius idea!
A useful way to introduce him to the audience, gauge listener reaction, plus an anytime listen which avoids any scheduling difficulties associated with his non-playlist, non-generic approach.
Incidentally those in favour of giving him a try on the actual network are now winning this vote! I think Alf Ipitittimus swung it!! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |
