A senior police officer has said he fears the spread of CCTV cameras is leading to "an Orwellian situation".
Deputy chief constable of Hampshire Ian Readhead said Britain could become a surveillance society with cameras on every street corner.

Could become? I would have thought it became a big brother society years ago. |

People should have started worrying about that about 10 years ago, when this was still in it's infancy. I fear it's already here now. An alternative national anthem for the UK would be Rockwell's 'Somebody's Watching Me'. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

There arent enough people to watch everybody. Think about it. 60m people to be watched. If we took 3 shifts of 8 hour days and factored in holiday leave & other absences, "they" would need about 200m people to keep "us" watched all the time. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Hey, look it tackles crime, takes the drug pushers from our streets and that'a ok in my book. I really don't think operators are sitting there thinking "what the heck is he wearing!", "Hey look at her on her phone".
I think they're more looking out for the criminal element....hopefully! _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

Granted, but there's also evidence to suggest the problems just move to areas which don't fall under the CCTV umbrella. The only solution, therefore, would to have cameras everywhere....

We could put microchips or microcameras in the offenders... _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
