Sorry about the footy result and even sorrier for those who couldn't get to the match because the plane broke down.

But, if some apparently ticket-holiding fans didn't make it, how could the local police then say that the ground was full and decline to let bona fide fans in?

Who's conning whom?

Ian.

Ian.

I hope those disappointed manage to get some kind of recompense.

I meant those who were stranded at Liverpool airport through no fault of their own, as opposed to the result of the game itself.

Toggy, you're obviously not a football fan.

I'm a football fan...but I'd be just as furious if I missed my holiday due to delays- that happens regularly to folks, but little is said or done about it, despite it happening year after year, ad infinitum.

At the end of the day, Brian (to paraphrase) they missed a football match....

According to Snooze24 today, UEFA officials told the local police to stop anyone else coming into the ground after they decided the ground was full. This of course was after several hundred people had got in with dodgy tickets, meaning that lots of Scousers with bona fide tickets were left either outside or in some cases inside the first barrier and outside the second - this latter area being where some of them kicked off against the local police due to heavy-handed tactics, leading UEFA to claim today that the trouble was caused by Liverpool supporters.

The cancelled charter was supposed to be operated by a Jet Time Boeing 737-500 (they're connected with Sterling Airlines of Denmark). Seems it went tech after landing at Liverpool/Speke (sorry, but I refuse to call it by its new name!). A part needed to make the a/c serviceable again couldn't be brought from Stansted in time for the flight to go ahead as normal so it was cancelled.

This is the problem that you get when you allow major football games to be played in non - football arenas.

I saw a news item on BBC on Wednesday lunchtime where a Liverpool fan told the reporter that he had no ticket but would "scout around" a couple of hours before the kick off to see where he may be able to sneak in. Very similar behaviour to that at Hillsborough contributed to the death of so many innocent people.
Scousers are renowned for their sense of humour, but perhaps their lack of memory is just as spectacular.
Not wishing to offend Liverpool FC supporters in general, but that man ought to be neutered.............
