The long-serving presenter of BBC TV's One Man And His Dog, Phil Drabble, has died at the age of 93.

Mr Drabble, who hosted the BBC Two show from 1976 to 1993, died on Sunday at his home in Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire, the corporation said.

A show that the BBC would never commission in a million years today. I cant believe it used to get 8m viewers on BBc2

My thinking, too. Lovely pregramme. However, I am quite surprised that anybody today might have even heard of it, let alone find Mr. Drabble's sad demise worthy of "reporting" in these forums.

At times, I was one of those 8 million. A lovely programme, indeed.

As it happens I didn't watch the programme but I remember Phil Drabble from other programmes--a real gentleman.

I suppose in a roundabout way he was responsible for an Oscar winning film, namely Babe. I cant imagine that being made unless One man & his dog had been on tv first.
