Been looking for an excuse to post this image for a few weeks now but might as well brazen it out here and now, since I'm using it as my avatar now.
I can't really get any closer without compromising my safety!

Absolutely marvellous shot. Well done! Come on then...... give us the tech stuff. Did you rapid-fire your shots? How difficult was it to track the subject and keep it in focus? Were you on the end of the zoom? Etc etc..... |

Yep, a Hawk from 100 Sqdn at Leeming, North Yorks.
FWF - relatively easy to keep the subject in focus - the Image Stabilising works a treat so I've only got to worry about chopping the nose or tail off! Taken at 1/640th at f/5.6 on a fairly flat day light wise, plus nowhere near the 100-400mm's zoom limit (he was pretty close although still within the legal separation limits). Not rapid fire either - I think I only shot three frames during the entire pass. I've also knocked the file size/quality down a bit to save on bandwidth in case we've got members/readers on dial-up. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Hi BB, 100 have been at Leeming for several years now. 25 still operate F.3s out of the base - 11 disbanded a couple of years back but reformed on Typhoons in March, whilst 23 disbanded and reformed as one half of the AWACS component (with . _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Am I getting old or what Cherskiy, 25 Sqdn didn't require any after flight (AF's) sevicing, if they ever flew as they were operating Bloodhounds out of Bruggen, in 76, last I recall of them

Don't know anything about planes or squadrons but I can still appreciate a damn fine job of photography.
