What was going on the Dawn Patrol this morning? It was rubbish! Some nonsense about our troops in Iraq and other places wanting pen pals. Apparently a number of troops have advertised in a posh totty magazine. Home and Country or Country Life or something like that.. anyway a posh totty mag.....for pen pals. SK thought it would be a good idea to get R2 listeners to send our boys ( and girls) a letter or two. Has she flipped? The average R2 listener is likely to be mid-fifties divorced woman. The last thing a 25 year old Army Captain in Iraq needs is three pages of woe is me, and about a hundred weight of Evans cotton underwear normally used as ground cover for acres of flesh , (all in the wrong places):. oh! and a Polaroid with, this is me 30 years ago written on the back........ wasn't I cute~?

She dragged it out for the entire programme.... all she had to do was read out an address ... she even got that wrong!

"The average R2 listener is likely to be mid-fifties divorced woman" !!?

Rachel, I don't think so.

A rather vitriolic post, are you having problems yourself my dear?

As for SK, she said she had breathing problems
and would be visiting her GP. So let's give her the benefit of the doubt - after all, if many of us were called on to work at 6am it wouldn't be a pretty sight or sound!

Nil vitriol- all very tongue in cheek but is it is the gripes section after all...

as a fee paying listener I'm entitled to expect top quality entertainment at what ever time of day it is. The presenters of early morning shows should adjust their sleeping patterns to ensure that they are fresh and full of beans for their listeners. If they're not well, they should get a stand in. Quite a few preseters at the moment have forgotton that " it's not about them".

Rachel, wrong side of bed this morning?
With SK's background in BFBS, it is likely that this is a subject close to her heart, and it should do no harm and may even improve the letter writing skills of some of our younger listeners, whom I'm convinced start as young as 18 because of the rubbish being handed out on other networks and some ILRs and BBCLRs.

"...as a fee paying listener I'm entitled to expect top quality entertainment at what ever time of day it is."

As are we all, but I don't get it from 5 - 7 pm weekdays, 9 - 11pm saturdays, or 10 - 1 saturday mornings.

'Quite a few preseters at the moment have forgotton that " it's not about them".'

I agree, let us name and shame the guilty.

Geddon I'm fine this morning thanks Smile , just had a great weekend picking apples in our garden. The joy of being the vicar's wife. Exclamation

I just got really frustrated with the DP this morning ... nothing winds me up more than being told .. I'll do that in a moment, a moment that keeps getting delayed... it's like GMTV.. they do that too ....

I don't usually mind Dawn Patrol but I have to agree with Rachel that this morning's programme was. quite apart from the penpal item, NOT good. If anyone had got out of the wrong side of the bed it seems to me that it was SK!

We all have off days, I know SK should try and rise above it but it all adds to the quirky nature of her show!

Ok, if she's ill, she's ill; the poor soul can't win as if she struggles on she gets hammered and if she's off sick she gets hammered! Some of us aren't blessed with strong constitutions, that's life: let's all wish Sarah well.

It's not about winning MIS, it's not a competition. There are many professions where it's important to be on top form when you're "in the chair". If you're well below par and don't feel like it then not to step-aside until you're back with it is doing yourself and the people on the receiving end a disservice. Laudable though it may be to soldier on, there's more to it than just turning up. I hope Sarah feels better soon.

I find it sad that some people apparently took the trouble to write and complain about poor Sarah yesterday - sinisitis is horrible and, yes, maybe she should have phoned in sick, but look at the abuse she gets when that happens!

Lots of comments on the POV Radio message board yesterday and even made the Metro paper this morning.

I remember SK was going on about Prince Andrew practically winning the Falklands/Malvinas war back in the Eightes. Looks like she's still waving her little flag about.

Just get Richard Allinson back to present the Dawn Patrol Show.

It's a no brainer Lesley Douglas.

Not quite - BBC Radio 2 is aimed at the over 25s, while BBC Local Radio/BBC Radio 5 Live is aimed at 50-60 year olds.

I thought Radio 2 was aimed at 30+. There is certainly not much to interest under 30's on 2.

There's a decreasing amount of stuff to interest the over-30s as well.
