We're told that drivers who use mobile phones whilst at the wheel could be charged with dangerous driving, which carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment.
I don't at all disagree with throwing the book at such drivers as hard as we can but I thought someone said that the jails were full, so how can we find room for them?
Wouldn't a really harsh fine and/or a driving ban of draconian length be a more practicable proposition?

We should let all the terrorists etc out of jail and fill them with motorists.
They are a lot easier for the police to catch
there should be some spaces at Guantanemo now to send a few motorists. |

A mobile phone user lady beamer-driver slapped into the back of my wife's car sitting at a roundabout, giving my wife, my daughter and a friend whiplash. When I got home from work I walked into the lounge to see what I thought were three daleks walking round in circles - they were ALL wearing neck-braces
But on a sombre note, while we were waiting for news of court or whatever, the same driver died in a head-on crash on the A5 near Nuneaton. Never found out if she was on that flippin' mobile again. |

I would have thought that the use of a driving ban would be a lot more effective as most of the users of mobiles, while driving, in my experience are people like me, white van man. I must add I do not use my mobile while driving, but sadly many others that rely on holding a current driving licence do and an automatic short ban would not enlarge the prison population with people that should not really be there. If, however, you cause death or serious injury, then probably prison is the correct punishment for the crime.
