A recent re-hearing of Maurice Chevalier's I'm Glad I'm Not Young Any More led me to wonder what the best age/time of life is.

For me it would take a lot to beat my present age of coming up 60. My wife and grown-up family look after me well and the grandchildren have now started to appear. My mortgage is paid off, nobody could now make me join the Army and all that teen/early 20 angst is well behind me. But I'm in tolerably good health, can start to look forward to at least a distant prospect of retirement (can hardly wait!) and, by the law of averages, can at least hope to be around for a good while yet.

What do you reckon is the best age to be?

I would say age 21-I have great memories of this age.

Definately not school that's for sure Very Happy

My best time would probably be around 1992, it was when I met my other half.

I'm in a similar position to you, Ian, although, having married relatively late, my son is still at home and showing little sign of wanting to settle and put his own roots down.

On balance, although recent family bereavements, and the unexpected death of a couple of friends/ex work colleagues of my age, have given me occasional intimations of mortality, I think I'm content where I am. Little stress, happily married, no debt and good health.

By the way, I wasn't at all unhappy at school, taken as a whole, but I'd never say that schooldays were the happiest of my life.

I would like to echo the remarks of the previous posters.

I too am at a stage where I don't have to prove anything, my wife and I take each day as it comes, and if we make it through incident and pain free, it's a bonus. The kids and Grand kids come and go as they please, and I'm content with life.
